Re: Club World Cup discussion
Yeah I was just talking about now. The gap between European competition and everyone else has become so large at the club level that it seems a bit pointless.

Re: Club World Cup discussion
The gap has almost always been there. There were years that the European’s didn’t take it serious, took it for what it was, a reward or holiday with a trip to Japan for a glorified friendly.

Re: Club World Cup discussion
The gap wasn't always there. SA teams actually could have given folks in Europe a proper run. The "not taking it serious" is BS. It's a competitive match with men full of pride and ego, of course they took it serious.
Nowadays (and you can see where the "nowadays" started by looking at the recent winners), UCL winners are far beyond everyone else where they don't need a crummy competition to decide who is the best.

Re: Club World Cup discussion
Yeah... no lol. Elite South American team were better then European teams until the 80s. Easily. Reason being that clubs only have 3 non-nationals before the Bosman ruling. So most if not all South American top talent stayed local. As an example, Zico and Socrates literally only came to Europe in their late 20s-30s just to check it out. Most of the top Brazilian players barely ever came to Europe at all before that (just look it up). We're talking Garrincha, Pele, Jairzinho, Carlos Torres.
Just look at all the non-European talent that litters the clubs in Europe today and now imagine if teams could only have 3 non-nationals... add ot that, there was no Euro. So for example, 3 non-Spanish players was the maximum at Real Madrid (we had good ones though lol).
Nothing about European clubs not taking the competition seriously. Before 1990, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina had 7 WC titles and European countries had 6. Now imagine 90% of South American talent staying in the big clubs in South America.
This gap nonsense pre-1990 is pure fiction.

Maybe I shouldn’t have said forever, but that gap has been there for at least 30 years!

30 years is true. After the 1986 WC, it started.... Basically when Serie A started spending like crazy.

Yeah, this "tournament" is just useless. Not even sure it benefits the other teams to be honest. But FIFA need the money, apparently. And I'm gonna be using this CWC trophy in post season arguments.
Tito can kick rocks, this is an important trophy damn it.

I had exams. On a Saturday. That's my reasoning and it's not gonna change.
