Goddamn, they're actually doing it. This should be quite a nostalgia treat.
I'm as hyped for this as I was for Endgame tbh.
Watched The Suicide Squad and thought it was great. Main cast was really good. Humor was on point and some of the twists and deaths were quite unexpected. The best DC film since TDKR easily.

Shang Chi was great. Visually the best MCU movie, fantastic action set pieces and the best MCU villain alongside Thanos.

For once Sony didn't spoil the whole movie. Still don't watch it if you wanna be unspoiled on the villains.

And, again, not for once, Sony and Marvel are ruining the most famous character in CB history

Watched Spiderman last night
It's incredible. The level of hype this movie has, and to land it so well, is something else.
Haven't experienced cinema reactions like that besides endgame.
Best spiderman movie (yes, better than spiderverse), one of the best comic book movie ever.
Anyone who cares, watch it ASAP and avoid spoilers as much as possible.

Huge disappointment to me as a Spiderman fan. Worse service to the character than the first 2 movies (if that was possible).
Best part of the movie was the last scene

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 3
Yes, it was indeed great. Best part is he is a proper Spider-Man now and no longer Iron Boy. God I hope Disney and Sony don't screw around and we get a college trilogy with Tom Holland.
- Spoiler:
- Daredevil was the best surprise for me. Charlie Cox
Andrew Garfield was amazing (no pun). Him saving MJ got the biggest cheer in my theater. Willem Dafoe just probably became the best MCU villain Tom Holland's acting was top level.
You know, I honestly expect Maguire and Garfield to come back for an eventual Secret Wars film along with Foxverse characters.

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 3
Watched The Batman
It's a technical and a visual spectacle heavy on symbolism but without the nuance and depth it promised in the first act. The film often felt neither here nor there with the genres it tried to take on. It is a good watch for a near 3 hour long film however there is nothing extraordinary about it. My main issue is with how hollow and impactless the film felt throughout and how weak the characters are written. The story is quite basic and the mystery element is poor. You actually don't feel like batman was trying to solve anything. A lot of the characters were casted well but weren't given anything substantial to work with. Standouts are obviously batman, the penguin and Falcone. I was not impressed with the riddler at all. The film's strength is with its symbolism and and the visuals. Some gorgeous scenes. This honestly should be Reeve's 'batman begins'
to follow up on.

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 3
Actually agree with that thinking about it. It didn't live up to what it promised. The first act was phenomenal. It just decided to go for social commentary at the end which was a weird take.
Think they could have done a lot more with Riddler

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 3
yea i get where you guys are coming from, disagree with RG though on the characters, the acting, the mystery angle and Riddler....
my final rating: 4.5/5
here's my review:
my final rating: 4.5/5
here's my review:
- Spoiler:
- The first two hours or so, up until The Riddler arrest and his conversation with Batman, was the perfect Batman film... or at least, the most perfect one we have ever gotten. Not kidding, I was sitting there with tears in my eyes with how perfect everything felt during the opening stretches. It was slimy and grimy... punk and gothic... bordering on anarchy, but not quite... just dark and beautiful. Firstly, the visualisation of Gotham was tremendous during this part. A metropolis in decay - that's the best part of Gotham. Secondly, a psychologically demented, morally conflicted and worn down Batman - that's the best kind of Batman. Those two reasons are also major reasons as to why, in the Nolan trilogy, I prefer Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) over the one-dimensional cat-and-mouse tale of destruction, chaos and moral ambiguity of the generally culturally overrated and overhyped The Dark Knight (2008).
Back to this film though, the narration by Batman was terrific and poetic. The mystery angle was well managed, and I appreciated the slow burn style which I couldn't help but feel that at times I was watching a David Fincher film, as it borrows stylistic elements, both in tone and aesthetic, from Se7en (1995) and Zodiac (2007). This also gave enough time to establish and flesh out great characters, and all of the actors came through to give fantastic performances. Even the Nirvana needledrop... I feel like "Something in the Way" is one of the most perfect songs out there for a morally conflicted Batman, so perfect that it almost felt too much on the nose, but they just about got a way with it... well, for the first instance, at least that is. Honestly, why did they have to bring it back for a second time at the end of the film? Ugh, so annoying. But anyway, then The Riddler got arrested, and the mystery angle of the film ended...
And... not that I think the social commentary was unnecessary or out of place or dumb or cringey. In fact, I can appreciate the way director Matt Reeves handled it all - from the bad cop, good cop dynamic, the racial messaging and even more so the acknowledgment and representation of incel culture. It is all a good mirroring of actual real life issues that are relevant in America at the moment, and the way he chooses to portray all of these angles are courageous and respectable. But it doesn't negate the fact that the ending is clunky and feels shoehorned. The action sequences feel underdeveloped, but most tragically the visual palette abandons the beautiful slimy and grimy yellow and red, for some standard everyday glossy digital blue-and-red look. Ughh, I disliked that part the most. So, I believe that Reeves could have touched on these themes, just not for this film. I don't know if a sequel or trilogy is confirmed with him, but that could have been the focus for a sequel where he fleshes those issues out more, and in that way it could have been more impactful as well. As for this film, it could have ended with a darker and violent ending for all of the main plotlines involving Batman, Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin and Falcone. An opportunity to create and finish off the ultimate perfect Batman film missed.

I can see why they deleted, does not advance the plot in any way.
I would love to have Joker be the Hannibal Lecter to Batman throughout subsequent films.

So it's looking like we may be seeing a recasting of the Flash for whatever WB have planned in the future. Who should take over the role?

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 3
Dr Strange MoM was great. Second best MCU film after Spiderman 3.
Distinct style from the director, 100% his movie which is what is needed at this point, less same-y stuff. A very different MCU movie. Crazier, more comic book-like, wilder than most entries. Took more risks than Shang Chi or Black Widow and earned more than both of those put together.
There was a lull in the MCU post-Endgame with the pandemic on top. Shangchi, Eternals, Black Widow was not a great run.
Now it looks to be back.
Spiderman 3
Dr Strange MoM
Thor love and thunder
Black Panther 2
Antman Quantumania
Guardians 3
