The final week of the season
This long, arduous, disappointing yet significant season is finally coming to an end. We still have three games to play, but in a week's time one era will be ending and a new one will be beginning.
It's Burnley at home today. A win for Arsenal would guarantee sixth place () and qualification for next season's Europa League. Burnley have been the biggest over-achievers this season, punching well above their level of quality thanks to a mixture of good fortune and organised defending. Their recent games against us has seen a good amount of controversial refereeing decisions, so they'll probably be keen to finally beat us.
Perhaps more importantly for Arsenal, this is Arsene Wenger's last home game. The club has some special activities planned: everyone in the ground has been asked to wear a shirt with "Merci Arsene" on it, and I'm sure Wenger himself will say a few words. Of course, as it it's the final home game of the season, there'll be a lap of honour as well.
The club will also be paying tribute to Per Mertesacker, Arsenal Ladies' legend Alex Scott and long-serving kit man Vic Akers after the game, as they're all retiring.
Following that, we've a mid-week game against Leicester. Leicester have been in terrible form recently and seem to be trying to get their manager sacked, so it's a good time to play them. We then finish the season at Huddersfield, who aren't safe from relegation yet with trips to City and Chelsea still to get through.

Re: The final week of the season
Thank god it‘s done, what a torture this season has been but there‘s light at the end of the tunnel now that Arsene has announced it‘s his final season with us.
There are many things to get excited about despite this terrible season. Who will be our next manager, what is his preferred style of play, new formations and players to be expected, lots of departures I imagine. Strangely this is the most I‘ve been excitef about a new season in 3-4 years despite winning some trophies in that period.
I hope some older Arsenal users come back for the transfer period and then the new season, this place used to be the most active in the forum so let‘s bring it back to it‘s glory days!

Re: The final week of the season
Had absolutely no plan to watching Arsenal anymore but Wenger's last home game ffs.
Really can't wait for this season to be over (seems like we say that every year lol) but more so this time.
Arguably one of the worst seasons we have ever had. But this summer will be a bit exciting at least.

Just about going through the process now at this point.
I do want us to give Arsene a good sent off, though, if not results wise, at least just in good zest. My emotional post will probably come next week Sunday.

Re: The final week of the season
The fans are applauding everything Mavropanos does, even the dodgy backpasses and unnecessary fouls
Don't know what it says about our defence that him and Chambers suddenly look our strongest partnership.

Re: The final week of the season
This problems in the team are glaring really. We are only saved by Laca and Auba being elite strikers.
Also, Mavropanos can do no wrong at this point. Will be interesting to see what the next manager does with the backline.
Also, is it me or is Arsenal's buildup weak and all over the place?

Re: The final week of the season
Compared to most games the build-up has been good. We're finding Wilshere and Iwobi in great spaces behind Burnley's midfield, and Bellerin/Kolasinac have made good runs down the sides.

Re: The final week of the season
5-0 FT.
Burnley didn't care a bit, but it was a fun match. Really heartwarming to see the players put in some great performances to see Wenger off at home.
Aubameyang was a class above. So excited by what he could offer next season.
Now for the post-match stuff... if Arsenal.com wants to work.

How long can it take though? World Cup starts in one month and if we don't have a manager by then we're already behind in schedule.
Knowing us though we'll wait for the transfer deadline, which now thankfully ends before the start of the season

Yes the new dates are May 17th when the transfer window opens and August 9th when it closes.
There is also a World Cup when basically no transfers for big clubs are made. This makes a quick announcement that much more important, there is not a lot of time to *bleep* around.

Yeah we need to get that shit right. It actually cost us a lot just judging off of that, I mean we're joint best at home.

Out of all our young promising players I feel like Nketiah is the only one not getting a real chance. Hopefully Huddersfield will be his game.

Who knows?
It's probably a mix of fatigue, knocks and the final game likely being a scrap. We've nothing to play for anymore so no point in risking players if they're not 100%, I guess.

Re: The final week of the season
1-0 Leicester. Iheanacho after we made a mess of clearing a set-piece.
All started from a poor giveaway in midfield, leading to a counter that forced a save from Cech.
We'd started really well before then.
