Something has to give right???? Casillas, Pepe, Ramos, I will agree with, but not Marcelo. You guys had to change your whole defensive set up, you couldn't play straight up because Marcelo would get roasted.

Marcelo and Ramos were very weak that game. Casillas did some blunders, and don't forget that Barcelona become supernatural that day. It was a good performance by Barcelona, which got a slight help by Real Madrids terrible defense and tactics that day. You can't put a heavy loss like 5-0 on Marcelo alone.

I agree, I am not trying to put it all on Marcelo, but Madrid fans on here are saying he is worth 30-40 mil. If you combine that with RM fans saying Pepe is great and ramos and casillas something has to give, and MArcelo is the worst of the bunch if you ask me. Well, in todays market 30-40mil for Marcelo seems like a reasonable price. I mean, Coentrao is 30m and Neymar is 45m.

We usually do it the other way around with our defensive mids playing defense (busquets and Masch) thats how confident we are.

I love Coentrao, and I think you got a steal there even at 30 mil. In my opinion he is head and shoulders better then Marcelo.

Thats not what I said. I said that RM fans throw out stats from the classicos like the 5-0 game was never played. I think Marcelo is a below average defender but great at going forward. My whole point was that RM fans think there whole defense is world class and if that were really the case they could play Barca strait up. I will say that I do think Pepe, Ramos, casillas, Coentrao, are world class, but Marcelo is not.

OK I can somewhat agree with you there. But if you are a DEFENDER then you have to be better then Average at DEFENSE to be worth the figures RM fans are throwing out there. That is why I think Mourinho bought Coentrao to replace Marcelo not compliment him. Jose cannot deal with Average defenders.

at that point in time real madrid was merely a collection of great players- not a team.

much more go into a game than having talented players. marcelo is very talented, this is not the only impact on his game. there is also tactics, formation, speed of play, the other players that impact the situation etc.

barcelona were a team at that point, and have been a team for much longer than real madrid currently. doesnt matter how many world class players a team has, on any given day, any team can be defeated.

if your a fullback you dont necessarily need to be above average at defending as long as your great at going forward.just look at the best RB in the world.

I have never said Marcelo is shit. I clearly stated "all of them" referring to all the games he has played.

It's easy to say a player is good when focusing on a few games that he played. He brought up the clasico's but left out one of them and I asked why it wasn't relevant.

maybe because every player in white that day was terrible? name one madrid player who would have rated above 5/10?
