Re: The Expanse || SyFy
4th season was excellent. This show never should've been on the chopping block at Syfy. It's gotten a new lease on life at Amazon. Easily some of the best quality TV I've seen this year.

Imagine being so rich that when your favorite show gets cancelled you can get your company to pick it up instead. This show's existence is more damning to capitalism than any of the show's portrayal of corporations in it.
Not that I mind, happy it's still around.

Never took you for an anti-capitalist BC, what has changed?
I'm as leftist as it gets but i'm still thankful to Bezos for saving this show.

I'm not a leftist by any means, just noting that if it hadn't been because Bezos was a fan then this show wouldn't be around and that's kinda sad.

Re: The Expanse || SyFy
I think Bezos saving the show for his own entertainment would only be truly greedy if he chose to charge us, the consumers, more money to watch it than what we already pay for Amazon Prime in order to recoup the costs for saving the show. He didn't do that when perhaps others may have. That's not exactly benevolent, but it certainly isn't malevolent either.

Him buying a show to make it continue is the best thing he could do. The inherent problem with billionaires and capitalism is their hoarding of wealth.
If this show was only for his own enjoyment you’d imagine it would be a losing purchase. And nothing is better for society than a billionaire spending money without making money.

Not the politics section, but... the inherent problem with billionaires and capitalism is that they use that capital to purchase the political system and rig everything in their favor. Hoarding of wealth is actually good, as that money makes it into banks/markets/angel investments/etc and it decreases the cost of borrowing for all sorts of companies, making it easier to get funding as a small business or a startup, or to run a company more efficiently. Every society should promote savings.
and again I'm happy the show is still around, not criticizing Bezos, just the system in which this would happen.

Re: The Expanse || SyFy
Amazing show.
I see we all agree S2 E5 was a goat moment. Unfortunately this is also where the show took a wrong turn for me, Miller was a brilliant main character and even though he was a brilliant protomolecule as well, that meant we were now stuck with Holden and his stupid face as the lead, as well as his relationship with Naomi who became annoying as fuck after season 1.
Fortunately we had Amos on the Roci, Prax was decent as well.
My favorite was Gunny though. Just wish that Holden became the protomolecule instead.
Chrisjen was a great character as well before she became Secretary General.

Agreed.
Holden's annoying face and Naomi Nagata's overly emotional reaction to everything are the only things holding it back.

I wasn't a huge fan of Naomi but Holden was fine. It often did feel like he wasn't the protagonist.
Miller favourite character by faaaaaar along with Amos. You can tell the difference between elite actors and newbie actors. I mean most of the cast is new and acted really well however when Thomas Jane was on screen, the show just elevated.

Definitely give it a go man. It's game of thrones in space but better ending (even though compressed)

Re: The Expanse || SyFy
I think I stopped somewhere on S3 and never got around to finishing it.
This show is definitely uniquely structured in that full stories usually end in the middle of the the seasons and then a continued/new story begins mid-way through & ending in the middle of next season.
Don't read beyond this point as there may be spoilers.
The beginning story about Eros and (Julie Mao?), the detective work with Miller, the Roci crew, & Jared Harris as the Belter's resistance leaders, it was just incredible world building and story telling. There was mystery, conflict, politics, character building, good acting, etc. That all on came to an end on S2E5. That whole arc was incredible sci-fi television.
However, Miller's death and then Jared Harris just disappearing from the show, replaced by Fred Johnson, and new characters being introduced who were weaker actors than previously kind of took away a lot of steam. I remember the 2nd story arc after Eros, about the protomolecule started off really interesting but fizzled out and came to a weak conclusion. The war between Earth/Mars was weak as hell after all the interesting build-up. Especially that shoot-out on the Earth main war spaceship, where they were fighting for control of the ship. So poorly written lol. I think the writing was noticeably poor for that 2nd story arc.
I stopped around the ending of that 2nd arc. I think the protomolecule had turned into a ring and a new story was starting with the crew documentary on the Roci etc.
Does it get better from there? Should I continue.
And just to add my extra 2 cents, Miller and Jared Harris were my favorites (and by far the best actors on the show) so both of them being gone and the show riding on the back of Holden and the Roci crew was a terrible decision. Outside of Amos, the crew is just not very interesting. I really don't think Naomi, the pilot (Alex?), and Holden were good actors or even average actors. And that female Mars soldier was a weak actor as well.
