Quick question
Hello everyone, got a quick question, is it allowed for team A to pay money for team B in the case where team B beats team C.
Example.
Let's say Chelsea and Man U are competing on the PL title, Man U has a game left against Arsenal, is it ok if Chelsea promised Arsenal incentives in the case they beat Man U.
Has such case ever happened in any league, if so pls list some examples.

Re: Quick question
Give me some examples pls. I am discussing with a friend of mine about this issue, I know logically it makes sense and nothing against it, but I don't know of any case.

Re: Quick question
No it's not officially allowed. It comes under match fixing which is banned. It's a different story if a team decides to play a fringe team though. Or if a team decides to take it easy

Re: Quick question
I'm not sure if it's not allowed. Obviously you can't pay a team to deliberately lose, that's match fixing, but paying so a team tries to win? Don't see why it would be forbidden.

Re: Quick question
I think that equates to match fixing. Doesn't matter whether you are paying a team to loose or win, paying to alter a result falls under match fixing unless you cover your tracks really good

The goal of a team is to get the best possible result to begin with, so paying bonuses to get the best possible result doesn't logically fix the outcome. If paying bonuses to reach the best possible outcome is match fixing, clubs shouldn't be allowed to pay performance-related bonuses to their own players either theoretically.

Re: Quick question
It's illegal and unethical but it does happen for sure , mainly outside of the top 5-6 championships. It's easier to pay some players to make their team lose than paying a club/team to incite them to go for the win tho.

Re: Quick question
Paying performance related bonuses to your players is quite different from paying bonuses to another team to get them to perform in a way that will be favourable to your team
It has match fixing written all over it no matter how you look at it

Re: Quick question
Considering the fact that teams are supposed to go for the win , paying a team to get them to perform is a waste of money because there is no garantee. Their president could take the money, the team play as if they care anyways but actually don't and then what ?

That's why it's a bonus IF they actually win.
It's usually done on last match days when teams have nothing to play for anymore and could play their entire B team. A bonus for taking the game seriously might prevent them from doing that. Which is a lot worse, by the way: teams that have nothing to play for not taking games seriously. It truly distorts the competition, unlike paying teams to do what they are supposed to do anyway according to the principles of the game.
What's worse. Real Madrid paying Granada to take the game seriously against Barca or Bayern after winning the title fielding kids against a team in relegation fight while the other teams in relegation fight had to play against a full strenght Bayern?

It happened in Romania with Steaua Bucharest's owner paying the opponents of CFR Cluj in the last matchday of the season, a few years ago.

Re: Quick question
Which brings us to think do players sell out their teams. There have been quite a few incidents in cricket where a player was paid to do some hanky panky business. Missing a sitter or bad tackle in penalty box to give opposition a crucial penalty and such?

Re: Quick question
In Germany there were cases when one club promised the other club sausages or beer for defeating another team, but that was more jokingly and more in lower divisions.
