This was a terrible result. But, naive teams that send half or more of their team beyond the half line to try to win in the last 5 minutes of the second extra time will usually end up like this. You do this at the beginning of the game so if their is a lethal counter, you can get back in the game. Croatia was a far better side in this game and has far better players, just goes to show.

Both sides were awful, don't know what you mean by Croatia being "far better". If you dont create a single chance all game and then leave Ronaldo wide open in your box you sure as hell weren't the better team.

Croatia messed this up and I'm not talking about the goal. They played far too cautiously in normal time in spite of being able to control the game and probably being slightly the better team. But instead of playing a "normal" game, they took a no-mistakes approach. That's no way to let your superiority show. They bottled it on a tactical level.

Lost yesterday? Exactly how? All 6 teams yesterday were pathetic. Still goes back to they never should have expanded this tournament to 24 teams.

I expect today and tomorrow will see the original favourites advancing and hopefully much more entertaining games.

I would say all 3 winners yesterday will be elminated in QF, but unfortunately one of them has to survive since Wales and Portaldo play each other. Here's hoping Ronaldo plays the entire game like he did the last 10 minutes yesterday. That way, hopefully only the best teams remain for the semis and we can have some decent entertaining futbol.

Terrible game. Have to admire Pepe though. A monster of a defender. Doesnt often get the credit he deserves because of his reputation. Only defender I have seen who can contain Messi one on one.
