It's funny how Chelsea fans are still butthurt about Iniesta. Laughing

If you want assists, we've given you the top assisting midfielder of the past 20 years. Enjoy. Laughing

Well that's actually the question in OP, a hero from doing the absolutely ordinary? The question I've asked from Cronaldo fans as Jibers my self-conscious life.

MoTM? Laughing Bar is always set low for this guy lol. It's why he can win Player of the Tournament in an International competition despite going the entire competition with just 1 solitary assist in a nothing tie way back in the group stages while Messi is scrutinized everywhere for carrying a poverty team to finals.

Again, easiest job in football. Ride Messi's coattails to glory & be compared to the likes of Zidane, Ronaldinho etc.

A dribble here & there, be balding & unassuming, a moment of magic in once in a blue moon & no one questions your contribution to the team.

there's some truth to this. i don't want to discredit iniesta cos he's a good player. but that has been messi's team for a while, and iniesta hasn't even been the second or third best player on that team. he's a good foil, but i think that should be where it stops as far as goat-ness...btw is it me or do people not give david villa enough props for spain's success?

Iniesta - Page 2 Empty Re: Iniesta

Post by jibers Mon 7 Sep 2015 - 12:27

The parallels between Iniesta and Zidane are astonishing. Both balding, both socred the winning goals to give their countries their fist ever world cups, both were 'inconsistent', both never scored many goals or assisted a lot, both were the best players in a EURO tournament (Euro 12 & 00), both of them elevated their contribution in big games.

Iniesta will never have that many assists, especially under Enrique because the CMs act as quasi fbs to cover for the runs of both Alba and Alves, Rakitic does more running to cover the space that Messi leaves when he goes central.

Iniesta does his role fine. Watch what he does and how he helps his teams, look at his movement and were he receives the ball, where he receives a pass, how he delivers balls to his teammates and you will see his contribution belies stats. You cannot see these things in highlight reels.

I think most importantly, most of the creative burden is left to Messi while the others do more of the running and covering. This is what contributed to Barcelonas ridiculous defensive stats last season.

Conclusion, Iniesta is fine. He he has aged a bit and lost a bit of his burst in tight spaces but he is still a great player that can deliver a moment of magic ala Zidane.

Werent this same MSN playing when barca were getting *bleep* by mid-table teams, eg almeria, getafe, sociedad etc?
Reminds me of people refusing to give enrique any credit, instead choosing to give MSN all the credit for barcas campaign.

I don't really understand the question, why does he start? Who is going to start over him, Rafinha? Barca's bench is quite weak, at least until December. Even if he were as bad as his haters are making him out to be be, he would still start becuase he faces little competition for the spot.

Gil trying to speak about great creative players. Wouldnt know a quality creative player if he walked up and slapped him in the mouth.

They have seen a decade worth of bus parking, all they know is bus parking. Anyone with a glimmer of talent looks like the second coming of Garrincha as they are used to functional water carriers and sled dog players like Essien, Oscar, Ramires and co.

Iniesta is better than any player in Chelsea history. Im sorry if you wasnt aware of this previously, but however bad you think he is...realise he is still on a level no Chelsea player has ever reached, or even been in the conversation to reach it.
