FC Augsburg appreciation thread.
Played their first Bundesliga season in their history in 2011/2012 and are now in the Europa League with a total market value of ~49 Mil. € (just Köln and Paderborn have less)
They beat Gladbach 2 times, Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Bayern (top3).
For me , their coach Markus Weinzierl is coach of the season in Europe.

Re: FC Augsburg appreciation thread.
On Saturday, Gladbach weren't sober yet from celebrating reaching the CL group stage.
But yes, Augsburg had a fantastic season!
Hilarious shirt they wore after the Gladbach match

Augsburg should be careful or Schalke might consider getting Weinzierl from them.

Na he won't leave now after reaching the EL. I'm pretty sure he will stay at elast one more year.

FC Augsburg appreciation thread
Club with an improbably small budget even for lower table BuLi.
Get into EL.
Get arguably one of the harder groups in the competition.
Competing in Europe is stretching their squad thin and has them struggling against relegation
Have to go to Partizan Belgrad and win 3-1 away on the last match day.
Go to Belgrad and win 3-1 away.
Lost for words.
They're heroes, every last one of them

That was just an act of self-defense to make up for the dive of that player from Cologne.urbaNRoots wrote:He's a dirty cheat that one.

Re: FC Augsburg appreciation thread.
And I wrote same response
tbh at the beginning I thought Augusta and Augsburg were 2 different things, indeed it is the Italian name of this city ( built by Ancient Romans, the 2nd most Ancient German city after Trier/Treviri the Marx' s city )

Re: FC Augsburg appreciation thread.
Trier was named Augusta something somthing too though.
So Augusta just meant the city/camp buit in the name of Augustus, Augsburg was Augusta Vindesomething, Trier was Augusta Treverorum or so.
For some reason, Trier became the name from the significant part, Trever.., while the Swabians just put 'castle' next to the first syllable

Re: FC Augsburg appreciation thread.
^ Yes, same thing for " castrum" (the latin term for camp ) , many ancient cities built by Romans had this term on name + another term to differentiate from others..Hapless_Hans wrote:Trier was named Augusta something somthing too though.

The english city that end their name in - chester , such as Manchester (magnum castrum), 've been built from Romans because chester is the translation for " castrum "
