Let's quit blaming our financial position for our failure
3 years in a row in the CL final, Dortmund, Atleti, Juve. All financial worse off than us.
Through amazing coaching and smart recruitment these teams have reached the pinnacle of European football. As well as all three winning their own leagues (though Juve don't have much competition, it's commendable for Dortmund and Atleti).
All we have to do is stop looking for excuses for our failures because that is exactly what we've done for the past 25 years.

Re: Let's quit blaming our financial position for our failure
Absolutely.
Juventus were absolutely shocking at spending money after getting promoted (Secca era..Diego, Melo, Krasic, etc)...but they sacked their managing director and employed a real footballing person and their transfer fortunes since then has been incredible.
We do spend a lot of money, but we just do it dumbly with no clear focus and have done so for many years.
Ian Ayre must go in the summer.

Amen. Couldn't agree more on that notion. Ian Ayre is business major whose whole background is in business and not in football. God knows how he's allowed to run football operations at a multi-million dollar franchise.

Ayre is probably the single worst thing to happen to Liverpool in a long time. That is one person I'll agree is a complete fraud. I literally believe any person here with the exception of RA armed only with FM could do a better job than he has done.

Gerrard, balo, borini , lambert and johnson gone this summer and we'll have 430k a week free in wages.
No excuses for money being a issue this summer.
Again, i feel other factors have been bigger in why we've struggled since FSG came.

Ayre doesn't decide which players we try to bring in, he handles the negotiations. The only reason our fans are so quick to blame Ayre is that he is a known person whereas we don't really know the people who do scouting for us, so we can't get irritated by them (and some mysterious transfer committee apparently takes blame off of Rodgers).
I have no problem with Ayre, but with our player recruitement.
Ian Ayre =/= Liverpool player recruitment

Re: Let's quit blaming our financial position for our failure
1) Who's blaming our financial position? Compare us to the top 4 in recent years under FSG. We CAN compete against them. We just waste cash.
2) The whole committee is a mess. That includes Ayre, Art. He should just negotiate commercial deals / off the field shit. Something he's good at. He really shouldn't be negotiating for transfers. He's just a scapegoat for the players we've purchased, really.

If Ayre negotiated the deals he is an issue, obv he doesn't know how to pay fair value for deals, a good negotiator knows when to tell a club to *bleep* off when were getting screwed.

Re: Let's quit blaming our financial position for our failure
How many deals for players that would have helped have died on the table or were drawn out long enough for someone else to come in? Rumours of this being a problem with a number of targets including Mkhit, Sanchez, Costa, Salah and more.
Who does that fall on if not Ayre?

Half those players didn't want to join us and the rest signed for better clubs that had more stability get over it.

Re: Let's quit blaming our financial position for our failure
Pretty much every player we have missed out on has had an offer from a more attractive club, there's nothing you can do then.
Ayre is the director of the football club, his background is in commerce, and commercially we've been improving quite nicely. It's not his job to sort out the playing squad. I'm totally satisfied with Ayre, I don't think our player recruitment would become any better if he was fired.
