To those who watched 3D, was the 3D worth it? Did it enhance the movie?

3D should only be a last resort imo.
Loved it just as much second time. Kylo Ren is GOAT

Wait do people pay extra for 3D? At my local cinema you pay 1€ extra for the glasses which can be re-used. Can't really judge if it was "worth it" since there's no difference in pricing but the 3D was mediocre, Some good moments but you're not really missing out on much I think. It's not like Avatar where the only thing it had going for it was being the first mainstream 3D movie and doing it well.

I am going to Imax 3D lol. I usually wait to hear from others if 3D adds or distracts from the movie. From example I heard from nearly everyone who watched that 3D on Avengers 2 was terrible so I watched 2D and on The Martian I watched 3D. I ordered tickets for Imax 3D days back cause it's Star Wars and I wanted the full experience.

Saw it
- Spoiler:
- Only complaint was Han's death. Would've preferred some heroic send off in slow motion fighting 15 stormtroopers. The way it happened was so gut wrenching ffs, hate Kylo Ren so much now.
Rey, Poe and Finn were amazing though. Humour was fantastic. Don't mind too much that's its a New Hope ripoff, it was fun in its own way and I doubt that next two will be this bad. Overall amazing

- Really, that was your complaint? Glad you aren't writing any of the new movies. Han going out in a slow motion shootout at age 70 would be awful.
This death was so heroic, sacrificing himself to turn his lost son back to the light because of the love he has for his son and Leia. The death of Han was my favourite death of any character ever I think. It added so much to the story and really gave a nice ending to the arc of an iconic character.
The scene between him and Ben was so emotional, and I expected it all the way. Didn't leave me less heartbroken, but at the same time I really felt for Ben because you could see how we really was conflicted and obviously felt some hate for Han for abandoning him.

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
Movie is so bad, 3rd episode looks like a masterpiece compared to it
- Spoiler:
Well to be exact 1/3 of the film looked promising, liked the atmosphere which seemed so Star Wars I nearly believed this will be great. I was mistaken (though the scenario around "finding a map to Luke's location" is itchy)
Then it goes downhill. A new Death Star? Which version? 3.0? And KOTOR had the same thing "solar power weapon", so it's zero in originality. Couldn't they make a new story rather than copying original trilogy stuff?
Plot holes like, newbies able to combat master of ren knights in a sword duel (and the whole duel looked disgusting compared to what was shown in the prequels), a mere stormtrooper knowing the structure of the base and R2D2 awakening after years of the sleep all of a sudden; doesnt add to the value of the movie
The humour is from Disney cartoons (well it is Disney production). Characters are uninteresting and hard to sympathise. The main villain is one to be highlighted: weak person, who has anger management problems, and it would've been good if he didnt take off that mask. You cant take seriously a guy with such "funny face" lol (whole theatre was laughing)
And what was the point of making all of them relatives? Kylo being Han's and Lea's son and Rey Luke's daughter (very likely, its pointed in the film). Rather than making absolutely new story, they decided to continue with Skywalker's tale.
Overall, Abrams wanted to please old fans and gain new ones, so he was afraid to film something completely different from the original. The movie will probably finish with 8.0 or more on metacritic and imdb, but it doesnt make it great or good. Avengers and Avatar which are both horrific films also had high ratings.

- Spoiler:
- The way it happens it didn't feel like that tbh, it felt like Kylo was toying with Han, making him think he was going to turn back to the light when he really he just wanted to kill him to fully commit to the dark side. Made me sick and when Kylo is inevitably redeemed (we all know its gonna happen) I'm gonna have no sympathy for him.
As for gunshots in slow motion that was an eexample I made up ffs, it doesn't really have to be that. Just something that makes the death feel heroic rather than Han being manipulated lime a stupid old man. I know Abrams probably meant it the way you took it but the way it happened felt more like Han being played than sacrificing himself.

- Spoiler:
- Again, he wasn't manipulating at all. People complain a lot of too much exposition, but they don't accept when images show the story without words.
Kylo Ren didn't play Han, he was genuinely conflicted about whether to kill him, which could be seen clearly in how the light was used in the scene. His face was half blue (light) and half red (dark side) which reflected his inner conflict while the sun was being drained. All this showed that he was conflicted, but still made a choice at the end.
I think you're trying to read into the actions of characters too much, instead of accepting the images and what they actually do

- Spoiler:
- I don't think he'll survive really. He's way to obsessed with the wrong observation of history. He worships Vader despite not knowing him. Can't wait to see the more of that story tbh. Because what Kylo did, wasn't what Vader would've done. Vader was all about family, through all 6 films, everything he did, he did to save his family and be with them. This is Vader's biggest trait. His name is literally father

- Spoiler:
- I hope you're right Freeza, maybe I was too absorbed in the fear of Han dying and missed some stuff. Will probably watch it again at some point so I'll see.
Like you said though I am very excited to see where this story goes because it definitely looks promising.
