that was a terrible mess by Ventura. Played the same team, basically, that beat Spain a couple of months ago, but with none of the same tactics and instructions from the looks of it. He was trying to keep things steady for this game and now its done. He must play his own ideas and players or nothing is gonna work from here.

Belotti looked excellent in the chances he has had. Immobile has looked very good for a while now. Both will likely start on Sunday. Montolivo... nothing needs to be said.

Spain is still Spain except they no longer get lucky defensively over the past several years... when Pique and/or Ramos make mistakes, it's now a goal as opposed to missed golden chance by the opposition (Robben 1v1 for example).

Spain plays very well but, for a team with so many players on big clubs, they are surprisingly very fragile mentally.... prone to mistakes and fold when things don't go their way.

I mean... Italy has always been good at sitting back, sucking teams in and then hitting back on the counter. But this was basically playing dead. Maybe Ventura was trying to recreate most of his experiences playing in Juve's stadium

That's Ventura. So conservative, he was going to play for the 0-0 at home.

that was the result of sitting deep with the wrong players. The whole lineup looked like a team to contest the ball and pass around, like it happened with Conte: Montolivo, De Rossi, Florenzi, Bonucci, Eder, Pelle. No counter attacking option, barely any speed. But then it seems like he just asked them to sit back so there was just nothing going on, they had no outlet.

Then with Bonaventura it was better already, he can provide the runs Montolivo can't. Finally with Immobile and the team pushing back it looked good. Belotti and Immobile must be there in this form. Montolivo should never be called up again.

If he was gonna sit back he should have played Candreva, Immobile and Bonaventura from the start.
