problem is that it has happened to them already, and quite a lot i might say.

Regardless of that, he wasnt good at all today, Nacho next to him was even worse, and carvajal and coentrao were dominated in all their duels.

Atletico plain dominated us this game, played harder, won most challenges, attacked with more players and defended with more players than we did.

Imo we lost because of that, intensity, complacency, mistakes, as always, and mainly BBC. it's near impossible to beat a team like this if you have 3 players forward doing none of the defending, or pressing at the very least.

The amount of times atletico were able to transition with no pressure was exhausting. they quickly double up on the wings, juanfran and siqueira go up at will because they know ronaldo and bale wont follow; and they cross to the opposite cross and they have superiority in numbers, wide and down the middle.

Simple tactics but execute it well enough and it's close to perfect.

And Ancelotti... im not sure i should blame him or feel sorry for him. ALl the games vs Atletico look the same, Ramos bailed him out in CL final... but at the same time, it's near impossible to bench Bale and CR, so he sacrifices the others like benzema or isco who are contributing...

Feeling sorry for Carlo? He's not some scrub coach that flo should be able to control. He's a 3 time CL winner for Christ's sake! That alone should give enough Leeway to bench his own players but he continues to be a Yes man even to the detriment of the team.

in saying that, will become awesome with more experience.

Varane is exceptional when he's got some sort of help from a midfield. We defend with 6 men at most... painful to watch

i honestly think most of the madrid fans have said varane has potential the only one who said anything about him being a top 5 cb or anything was valk.. but that guy rates marcelo as a top 5 winger i wouldn't take his word too strongly.

Anyway, the match up vs atletico characterizes the limitations of building a team with CR and Bale. They suck when they have no space to run in, Atleti know that so they are triple teamed on every touch.

They fact that they are also poor off the ball making efforts to open up space for the fullbacks is another problem. the attack becomes static and there is no chance for interplay with other players. Defending off the ball they are equally worse and refuse to press or to do anything like that with any kind of consistency throughout the game.

Meanwhile, Atleti defend with 10 players, and when they launch forward, they always have the numerical advantage.
