Schurrle is a German international, had a fantastic World Cup, just 24 so there's still a huge resale potential there and had 3+ years on his contract. Not that much of a fee considering the current market.
They've been begging for a proven goalscorer since Dzeko left and now they've finally gotten one.
It's extreme for Wolfsburg, but guess it is a statement of intent too.
So good for them.
Problem is, Schürrle looks more or less like the new Podolski.
One breakout season with a small club propels him into NT, and he then performs much better in the NT than in his clubs ever since.
I think in his first few NT appearances, when he was still a youngster at Mainz, he scored almost every game, even when just subbed on for a few minutes.
Spectacular goals too. And yes, his WC was great too.
It's just that after he went to Leverkusen he was having bad spells already and his 'development' stalled, and unlike Podolski back then when he couldn't make it at Bayern, Schürrle has top competition for the NT.
So he was actually already out of the NT, without Reus' injury and a confidence advance from the Chelsea transfer he wouldn't have made it to the World Cup.
In fact I was surprised Chelsea bought him at that moment in time at all.
Hope he does well at Wolfsburg though, him and Lord Bendtner are already scaring the shit out of me

2 days before the deadline and it didn't even feel like a transfer window.
Probably the quietest window in years

I was thinking of posting the same, that is it just me or has this window been really quiet. Maybe the January window should be scrapped?

Re: 2015 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. II
I actually really like Ings. I think he's on the upswing too. He has a tremendous work ethic also so I'm confident he can continue to improve. He certainly fits in better than Balotelli or Lambert.
The only thing that bothers me is that they're supposedly going to loan him back which doesn't make sense to me right now given that we've seen how inefficient we are with Sturridge out. Balo and Lambert just don't work for us and Borini is sub-par also. Would much rather find a way to get Ings in right away TBH.
EDIT: So apparently that type of move would violate the rules anyway and can't be done. So either Ings is coming to Liverpool or he's not being signed. Burnley seem to be pretty adamant that he's not going anywhere.

That Man too want to buy Bale and have money for that is one thing. That Madrid agree to sell Bale is another.

Agreed. I thought the transfer window just started before seeing your post. Only Chelsea, Wolfsburg and I guess Milan made some significant deals.

Burnley Official Statement wrote:Following growing media speculation, Burnley Football Club would like to reiterate their stance regarding striker Danny Ings.
Ings has been heavily linked in the past 24 hours with a permanent move to Liverpool, with the suggestion that he would then be loaned back to the club for the remainder of the campaign.
This kind of deal is prohibited by the Premier League under rule V7 which states that a player cannot be purchased and loaned back between Premier League clubs in the same transfer window.
Chief Executive Lee Hoos said: “This type of move would violate Premier League rule V7 regarding transfers so simply cannot happen.
“This is the last time we will be making any comment regarding the player’s future.
“Over the course of the window, the player himself, Sean Dyche and the chairman have made it clear he won’t be going anywhere and we consider that the end of the matter.”

Burnley need to be careful, he's put of contract in the summer and thus he can sign a contract with another team now.

That was my thinking. They should just strike a deal with Liverpool to have Lambert or Borini go back on loan to them instead. He could easily leave for free (essentially, there'd still be a training fee) in the summer and no doubt with teams like Liverpool, Tottenham and Sociedad circling he'll probably go.

Different players. Schurrle is fantastic but the best player in the League is currently occupying his favoured position. Schurrle is a natural born goalscorer and his movement is fantastic but he offers very little in possession.
Cuadrado on the other hand is the pure winger we've been looking for since Robben. He's extremely direct both on and off the ball and is a threat in transition. Don't know if you've noticed but this is perhaps the worst counter attacking team Mourinho has arguably ever had. Cuadrado offers us the threat of transition we've severely lacked while we also retain most of the qualities Willian offers the team.
Didn't realize you guys signed Aguero.

Re: 2015 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. II
So Roma signed Doumbia (CSKA ) for 15 mln , according Di Marzio , permanent deal .
I am a bit surprised about this deal because it represents an important expense for the Ivorian, but basically Garcia appreciates this sort of players , he prefers a similar CF than a static CF but with good sense of goal as Destro
