Re: US Presidential Race
Mathematically I don't think the Grand Old Party, as it currently is, will ever be able to win the white house again. Not only has the nation shifted mentally, but Demographics have made such a win for them impossible in their current incarnation.
Let this be a sign to people of what horrid things can happen when you allow your party to be dictated, and overrun, by the most disturbing of fringe elements.

Well, you never know. A few months back I read an article about a GOP plan to gerrymander the electoral college. It wasn't a fringe idea either. It had quotes from politicians who were in a position to do something about it.

Not a smart move, with the candidates the GOP has mustered up so far, he might be better off kissing some Clinton ass.

Re: US Presidential Race
It's pretty ridiculous that the republicans invited a foreign PM to the US to shit on the US president. Regardless of where you stand on Iran's nuclear program and a possible deal with them, it's outstanding this guy was getting applause, let alone helping the republicans score political points.RealGunner wrote:kinda related

Netanyahu is also making Israel, which is (was?) an issue with bipartisan consensus, into a Republican issue. This is bound to leave several people in the Democratic party with a sour taste.

Netanyahu is pushing the line right now.
I'm praying that he doesn't know where it is and it spectacularly backfires.
There is enough jewish influence right now to give him breathing room for whatever the fk he wants to say.. but this COULD be too far.
Actually, it's way too far if you want to be objective, but even with the zionist bias in the govenment, it still could be too far. I hope he gets cocky and keeps pushing the line.

Re: US Presidential Race
The thing many people are overlooking is, that Netanyahu is widely disliked even among jewish poeple - especially outside Israel.
Just look at the shit storm of people making pics with "You're not speaking for me"-signs.
Israeli politics are f*cked up by a war of attrition nobody can win, and the impotence of the opposition, but even when winning, Netanyahu hardly has favorable ratings.
Say nothing of the Jewish expats everywhere, they, as a rule of thumb, hate the guy. Conflating hatred of right-wing militarism with antisemitism is probably Netanyahus biggest advantage - he's comfortably to the right of what most centrists and moderates are comfortable with, yet his critics often entertain antisemitic sentiment, so they discredit themselves. Shame, really.

Re: US Presidential Race
Yeah but the silent majority in israel don't speak up. The polls in israel are always by far favoring extreme action because the far left and moderates are too scared to speak up. Every time a moderate president is elected, israels terrorist right wingers assassinate him.

Re: US Presidential Race
And so the first candidate for either party officially throws his hat into the ring for 2016 in Ted Cruz.
One does have to admire the unintended symbolism in the first GOP contender entering the race formally announcing his candidacy to an audience of compulsory attendees at a university founded by far-right theocon zealot Jerry Falwell that teaches that the earth is 6,000 years old and that humans lived alongside dinosaurs.

I know there are many interpretations of the phrase 'natural-born citizen' but with the way the Republicans tried to hang Obama out to dry even though he was born in Hawaii, you would think Ted Cruz's eligibility for presidency itself will be up for question.

Donald Trump has already given him the hard welcome by insisting on Cruz releasing his birth certificate

Re: US Presidential Race
So, Hillary Clinton is running for president. She seems like a good and skilled politician. Would be sort of cool if the U.S. got its first female president, too.
However, she'd be 69 when entering office. Somehow 70+ year-old people in positions of great power unnerve me a little.

Also Rand Paul announced about a week ago. Of course plenty more will be announcing, but as it stands can't see either Paul or Cruz beating Hillary. The GOP really needs some better candidates.

I am so lukewarm to Hillary, but it is very very early in this race. Really need to see what she says about her time with the State Department. If ever there was an area that will trip her up, it's foreign policy.
Also Marco Rubio announced yesterday. A rising star on the GOP side, but he's very inexperienced and I don't think we need that in our next president. Obama, for all of his strengths, was very inexperienced....and it showed.

Same goes for Ted Cruz, who has been in the Senate the same amount of time Obama was when he ran for President.

That said, Ted Cruz has no chance of becoming President, unlike Rubio (though his is also quite low currently, I think) or Obama previously.

Re: US Presidential Race
I think Hillary could do well, and if she wins the primary I'll vote for her. But I'll be really disappointed if she isn't heavily challenged amongst the Democratic Party. This can't just be a coronation.
She's just so divisive... And add that to this current GOP.. Man.. When it came to Obama it's like they painted him to be a Kenyan, socialist, Muslim terrorist or something. But honestly they often came across as looking petty and small in regards to their attacks on him
But electing Hillary is like the dems are handing the republicans a loaded gun. They are just going to have so much ammunition, I feel like she has single termer written all over here if she does win.

Just can't get excited about her honestly. She just doesn't come off as genuine to me. Her populist turn is cringe-worthy at the moment.

Re: US Presidential Race
My vote is easily going to Hillary. Even though I self-identify as fiscally conservative (in American terms), the GOP just has way too many loonies nowadays for them to be a viable option. Just can't understand why they won't budge on women's issues and gay rights. It is possibly the most obvious vote bank in recent memory.
America desperately needs a third option IMO. The Democrats will borrow and borrow until they become China's Foxconn.
