What do we say?
My impression would be these guys are a tiny bit too full of themselves lol.
"fear of a new generation of intelligent analysts" lmao yeah right

Maybe a bit overplaying the incompetence of experts and coaches, and downplaying the economical drive to buy star power over actually helpful additions to the squads.

If anything the economic increase has led to more overhyped dross and less stars. Teams just spent a lot on crap now instead of carefully planning to get the best they can.

So basically, "No matter how many talented players they buy from overseas, they are managed by idiots, which will lead to their continued failures.
Fair enough.
Also, England (country, club, media etc) seems to have developed and unhealthy obsession with Passing stats and possession.
Is that just me noticing this?

Re: spielverlagerung's damning rant against English football
Excellent article though something always bothers me since I'm very non European: why does Europe or somewhere along those lines care about the English game in general?
I mean, even us in GL (because you guys are smarter than the madness you write) know that there is something off about English clubs particularly in the top flight. And it's not just "they can't defend properly". But shouldn't that be an English problem and everyone else should be like "meh".
Anyway, excellent article and that website got a new fan. Yay.

@Doc
It's all the fault of the media that hype the English League as the best of the world. If someone does that it invites comparisons and thus people look over to that "Bestest of Leagues" and start commenting.

Re: spielverlagerung's damning rant against English football
Even though I beleive the Brits do have the best league in the world atm, I have the "meh" attitude towards them. The rest of Europe (and alot of the world) have a disdain for England, no doubt, because of they way they come off to the rest of Europe or world. Just swag, honestly.
US has a similar problem to the world but in a field outside football.
In football, it's mainly Mexico that dislikes them.

I would absolutely love it if an English team won the Champions League this year. Especially if they dominated a German and Spanish team on the way to the trophy. Maybe then all those whiny *bleep* across the continent would shut up.

Yes, but because they are expected to all be buying stars all the time. Now they end up paying twice of what any German club would pay for mid-level players. It's kind of hilarious, when you don't have a stake in it.

Didn't read the article which screams of bitterness from the theme of it. Not arsed.
The PL is the most exciting, popular and best league in the world. Deal with it.

Popular, yes. Exciting, extremely. Best, unless you're contractually obligated to say it is the best, then no, the BPL isn't.
Definitely one of the best leagues in the world...

They are not wrong about that tbh, millions spent but with crap coaches leading them. I have always thought clubs would be better off spending some of the budget on good coaching and spending less on transfers.
About the possession yes it's true, people have become obsessed with Barca etc.

Re: spielverlagerung's damning rant against English football
That's quite ignorant though.
Stats are hardly useless. Only problem is that people think stats are easy. Like couting goals+assists (whoever decided a goal is worth as much as an assist btw?) and calling the guy who tops the list the best player in the world. Obviously it doesn't work that way.
Stats are good. But interpreting them is an awful lot of work and very difficult. There's a reason why people who studied maths or stats get paid that well

Who cares? There's 20 teams not 3 or 4. Anyway the only team from England who parks when necessary is Chelsea and they are pretty damn good at it.
As for the other 3 teams they have been crap in the PL this year too, hell we are above 2 of them
Again though who cares if you weren't so obsessed with comparing leagues and finding faults in them, as well as getting angry at other people's opinion you would realise all of the major ones are pretty damn good.
