Uh-de-gore. Best way I can describe it.
Commentators are going to love his name here.

This is correct
Öde means öde?
In German it's the word for empty, boring, desolate lmao. And Gaard is farm? Or rather garden?

It's the same language family so shouldnt be that hard. I have no issues pronouncing any words from the germanic family and my mother tongue is completely different, to me Ödegaard is very ease to pronounce with little effort

All correct. Gård/gaard usually means farm in Norwegian, garden is «hage». The Swedish word for garden is «tredgård». A lot of Norwegian and German words are similar.
Whenever I’m on holiday abroad, I tend to browse through restaurant menus in German (when they’re in multiple languages). 90% of the time, the name of the dishes are identical or similar enough that I can guess what they mean.

We have a few names like that here, that make no sense or just sound comical. Our equivalent to your Schweinsteigers or Badstubers some of the more conservative names are like that.

In writing, it's often very possible to guess between Nordic languages yes
Nowadays, in German we use the word öde almost only in the sense of boring
but it used to mean empty land, there's also the old word "Einöde" which means single, lone standing house, farm or settlement. So thenand öde farm probably doesn't mean it's desolate, but that it's alone and apart from a larger settlement

Re: Martin Ødegaard - Welcome to Arsenal
we also have Haag as an old word for some kind of garden or plot surrounded by hedges (hence the word), or fenced in
tbh Schweinsteiger is also funny in German as it literally means Pig-climber.
Considering that "besteigen", climb upon, is also a word for (an animal) fucking (another animal), it's a pretty weird name.
But it probably comes form the word "Steig", a mountain path, someone who drives pigs along a mountain path? Or someone who's from the village at the pig-running mountain path?

Never actually thought any closer about the name Badstuber..
.. but now that I think about it, he's literally called "the one from the bathroom" LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

It’s mostly used to describe something being boring, here as well. It literally means desloate, though. We already had a discussion about «Braut» Haaland. I think the name is fitting for him, because although no literal meaning behind the name comes to mind, it sounds a bit like brute
I haven’t seen him do it much for Dortmund, but whenever I watched him plow through defenders at Salzburg, brute force became my first association with him.

"Braut" means bride in German, but also used to describe, depending on the accompanying word, a babe, a crazy woman, a tart

Well, I am biased towards him. We’re from the same city, and we even have some fellow acquaintances. I do think he is blessed with fantastic technique, vision and passing ability. I would’ve expected him to go very far in his career, if it wasn’t for his more recent injury history. His natural talent is very, very high, in my opinion.

Makes sense. Bride is «brud» in Nor/Swe/Dan. Not the coolest name to have, if you’re a man

Re: Martin Ødegaard - Welcome to Arsenal
@Thimmy do you think it makes sense for Odegaard to go to Arsenal for the rest of the season when he is looking for playtime? They have young kids they also want to grow like Rowe Smith and Saka, and ultimately, unless he plays like De Bruyne 2.0 I wonder if Arteta will have incentive to play him that much, specially knowing he doesn’t control his future. Surely La Real was a better option to give him minutes no?
I personally think he made the wrong choice

My only guess is that he wanted experience from playing in a different, more physical league. With his recent injury troubles, I’m not sure if that’s such a good idea, but only time will tell if he made the right choice. Arteta seems to be a big fan, so I imagine he’ll do his best to give him time on the pitch. He is quite positionally versatile, so I’m sure he’ll find a place in the team, as long as he manages to stay fit.

They have no idea what they're talking about... this is Odegaard in sociedad, in messi's company:
and 2nd best in all of Sociedad in 19/20 season
glad he is loaned out again and not malnourished under Zzzidane

Re: Martin Ødegaard - Welcome to Arsenal
I personally think he showcased the most individual skill at Herenveen, before his jumper’s knee injury became an issue for him. He was an absolute joy to follow when he played for them. He went a step down at Sociedad, but that’s when people finally started talking about him.

Re: Martin Ødegaard - Welcome to Arsenal
the caveat of this graph is that it’s match day 1 to 19. What happened to the other match days he played? His level sunk like a rock in water because of that knee injury, which, until we know more, is not fully healed.Myesyats wrote:Thimmy wrote:Helmer wrote:

Re: Martin Ødegaard - Welcome to Arsenal
Sure I dont know what the extent of his injury is but I know what he's cabaple of when he's fully fit and he can still turn his career around, definitely one of the best players to have on loan so smart move by Arse-nal.
