Re: Mobile phones Thread
Well, its a gift for a kid so i dont want to break the bank but at the same time get a capable phone. I understand that oleds arent available at this price range
Is Xiaomi the best option specs+price wise? Samsungs are quite a bit pricier i guess

OK, last question
Redmi Note 8 Pro or Galaxy A50? Both cost exactly the same
Galaxy has less RAM but AMOLED screen + always on display and I think Xiaomi's MIUI is inferior to whatever Samsung has
I'm leaning towards Samsung

Still not convinced, Samsung has AMOLED screen and always-on-display is a nice touch
I've also tried one in the store and the interface seems more user friendly

Re: Mobile phones Thread
I have the direct comparison here. I have an S8 (which is better than A50), my wife has the Redmi Note 5 Pro (older version of the 8 Pro).
All those "paper details" like AMOLED etc. you don't notice at all in daily use. Game performance (Pokemon Go) is the same, no idea if there is a difference in the newest possible games, we don't play on the phone other than Pokemon Go when going for a walk.
Side to side the colors are different but not in a way where you could say one or the other is better. Just different. Samsung colors are more exaggerated and unnatural IMO.
Xiaomi interface is pretty easy to use, I mean most phones have the same principles anyway and I'm also fine with the Samsung interface (only had Samsungs since the S4 so I'm used to it anyway).
My S8 used to crash for a period of 2 months not long ago. I changed nothing and it suddenly stopped after 2 standard security updates (which aren't system updates but Samsung sneakily changes more than security updates I suppose). Also when I leave the house with the wife and my battery is dead, my wife is still at 40 %. Ridiculous. Her 1 % even lasts like an eternity. My phone dies at around 10 % and drops to 0. After only 2 years.
I guess Samsung wins at marketing and irrelevant theoretical benchmarks. Practically even my S8 isn't superior to the Redmi Note 5 Pro so the margins should be even smaller between A50 and Note 8 Pro. A50 costs 1/3 more.
Of course you can decide however you wish.

Alright, you convinced me. Also I've read a couple of opinions that Samsung is not good at making budget phones
Gonna buy the Note 8 Pro this week

Not a fan of big OLED screens because they dont look much better than regular LCD but drain a lot of battery tbh

Re: Mobile phones Thread
I thought OLED screens were more battery efficient as they only turn on certain pixels vs all of them. Ie true black remains off and could save battery.

Re: Mobile phones Thread
hey guys question" so first time ever in my life as i was fed up with Apple's refraining from making phones with low storage, i changed to android
within few days i started noticing - bugs, apps crashing, and after i installed vpn then used youtube - a porn ad started playing loud XD - btw everything is new - no addons installed, gmail account new, everything new - maybe vpn does this? XD
how ya all secure, and keep ur android safe and off the grid? any advice?
- most impressed thing about android was battery life was unbelievable, storage is now no problems because apps update consume a lot, plus any media files
ya all suggest me adding antivirus software of some sort too? please advise

Wish I could help you, but I've had nothing but iPhones for over 10 years now. Android phones are far more susceptible to viruses than IOS devices are, so you should definitely get some kind of antivirus software.

Re: Mobile phones Thread
yea i have an antivirus app (360 security) but tbh i have had androids all my life when i moved on from the Blackberry era, and never have i had a problem, besides older, weaker phones getting slow due to clog/storage space/draining cpu. Tbh that's my experience with Samsung phones.
But my current Huawei P Smart which i bought in Nov 2018 is still in top condition.

@thimmy @ elgunner yea me too, i wanted to give andriod a shot cuz this year the new iphone release was postponed for next year so i can buy previous gen. iphone w/ big storage a bit cheaper.
yep with porn ads on youtube i felt like my android is already out there in the wild by just (probably downloading my paid vpn service) and adblock... maybe that XD
and yep i think i will be needing anti-virus ,
speaking of which el gunner yep i just thought about that too, i too am a long subscriber of symantec products for a long time but thanks for the feedback and some hope with regards to andriod XD i wil give it a shot al though i realized that maybe i will stay aaway from doing my day to day email checks / online shopping or whatnot in andriod. symantec mobile protection service aint bad im thankful they have put a reasonable price for protection for a year.
maybe it depends on manufacturer cuz if i am not mistaken, even if android releases os updates, manufacturer do some beta tests with compatibiltiies and what not and that ur phone manufacturer did a homework.
i bought a cheap 280 dollar asus zenphone m2 pro until new iphone comes and i started noticing in thread that asus has lot of troubles answering tech issues or addressing them quick and fast XD
with apple almost never had problem, except battery and storage was a big deal. i will play around but thanks guys for advice and keep it coming. i did thought about restoring back but it wont change my firmware although there are workarounds like getting into root level along with old firmware roms to do that to stable ver but i dont want to brik new phone XD

OnePlus Nord says hello
Never have gotten a Chinese phone in my life. And with India's present stance towards Chinese apps/products, I should ideally stay away from them even more but I don't know tbh, OnePlus Nord looks a pretty attractive option for me, all aspects considered.
Thinking of buying a new phone on my birthday next month and I'm weighing up my options. Samsung's budget friendly options are really meh. Not a huge fan of the A series. Which makes me lean towards OnePlus tbh. Very tempted right now

An absolute gorgeous piece of technology and it just so happens to be great performance-wise as well.
I mean look at this beauty for god's sake:
- Spoiler:
I've had this phone for 2 months now. It's amazing and I love the design and look of it.
