Been a while since I've seen a player that can match his combativeness on the defensive end with an equal elegance on the ball. I've said it several times before but he really reminds me at times of the legendary Fernando Redondo of the late 90s Madrid team. Lefty, excellent touch & composure. His trot is almost identical and his ability to pass through the lines is also very similar. He can play at the base, in a midfield two or even as a B2B midfielder as he did several times for Benfica, he's just that good.

I also questioned his speed at first but he's also deceptively quick. His massive frame (6'4) and seemingly endless legs allows him to cover the ground quickly.

Well done to MT and apparently Mole for calling it, he really is a wonderful player to watch. His partnership with Fabregas could potentially match or even better Scholes and Keane.

Been our best player since he joined.

Glad to have him, although, with Cesc as a partner, he'll need to have a great game everytime to cover Cesc.

You think he is Redondo's heir?

I mean... there is no way he can do what Redondo can.
He certainly doesn't possess that kind of mobility.
He would never be able to take a free midfield role like Redondo.
To compare the two is ridiculous.

Something I just learned, I didn't realise Matic part of a swap deal with Benfica.
 
I didn't realise that Chelsea had originally bought him for 1.5m.. then traded him + £21m for Luiz in a swap deal.
 
They then purchased him back for £21m (again) as we all know.
 
Suddenly the sale of Luiz doesn't seem like such great business for Chelsea after all. The two stupid fee's effectively cancel each other out.
