23 games all comps (17 starts)... 9 goals and 0 assists. Not horrible. But not very good either. It's about Morata's level. If he plays 45+ games, he gets you 15-20 goals.
The issue with him is that, technically, he's poor. So he needs his confidence to be at a maximum to have any effectiveness since he can't rely on his technique.
THAT SAID, Atleti don't care about scoring from the CF. He's there more to occupy the CBs, hold the ball and create a threat on the counter. Morata is horrible at holding the ball... but he's decent at the other two.
Where are you guys getting stats? I see him 11 liga games, 3 Cl and the uefa super cup!
The worry isn’t his production, it’s his injuries and at his age there’s bound to be more plus recovery is not what it was under 30. He’s had three separate injuries so far and the latest, his foot has had him out for over a month. Not sure when he will be back.
Add community shield (CC), FA cup (FAC) and Europa to EPL (Prem). These are all official competitions.

You guys are talking about different players, lol. Gg, guys, gg.
Sporty was talking about Morata, saying his stats aren't terrible, but he really has been an awful fit for Chelsea.
Bill and I were talking about Diego Costa. Bill pointed out that Costa has 4 goals in 15 apps this season, but that's all competitions. I don't care about European group stage of domestic cups. anyone can shine there. Costa has 1 goal in 11 apps in LA LIGA this season and overall 4 goals in 26 apps in LA LIGA for Atletico. Injuries or not, that's spanning two seasons and is just horrible for a striker who averaged more than 0.5 goals-per-game in the Premier League.
What happened to him???

Re: Morata is finished
ahhhhh lololol.
Watching Atleti.... he used to be pretty quick and fast. Not blindingly so. But he would get past guys and stay in front of them. He's lost a step there. He hasn't adjusted his style and, unfortunately for him, he just doesn't get good looks anymore. As Bill mentioned, he gets injured a lot and that's taken its toll.
Finally, there aren't a ton of shots playing for Atleti. The main scorer is Griezmann. So Costa is left with very few opportunities to compound the problem.
My observations.

Re: Morata is finished
As I said, injuries is the problem. ( I'm of course referring to Costa).
with the latest injury, the concern is when he will be back and how effective will he be!
However, I think this deal won't happen! It seems Morata has demanded to both Barcelona and Atleti that he wants guaranteed starter minutes!!! Good luck with that!!!
This guy has demonstrated now on 3 separate clubs that he is not starter material and he now comes out with that negotiation play??

Signed for 80 mil then 18 months after, loaned for 18 months with no obligation to buy.

Re: Morata is finished
Possibly yes, given that every man and their dog could see that Morata was not a striker that could lead a top Premier League team. Seriously, if every active GL poster was asked that "should Chelsea sign Morata for 80m to be their starting striker" I'd like to think most would have said 'no'. It was so obvious.

Its was 58m plus add on that could rise to 80m, probably didn't hit many of those add ons if any. Still ridiculous fee, but lets not exaggerate.
We are receiving 8m up front, and there is an option for sell at 40m.

Lukaku signing is surely is up there no? 75m pounds plus add ons that would rise to 90m.

Nah because we'll recoup at least 40m on him, that's bad business too but not on par with Morata IMO

Well lets see how Morata performs, La liga and his home country fits his soft ass much better. Atletico style fits him much better.
Looking like we will recoup our money on Bakayoko, Milan seems very happy with him. Hopping this mental midget can do the same.

Re: Morata is finished
Morata is the weakest player I've ever seen. Don't be fooled by that 6'3 frame. On top of that his runs are very poor. Still. He will do well in a counter attacking scheme. He has plenty of pace to burn and is a threat in the air, especially with space. For all of moratas faults, he wasn't getting good crosses or solid balls in behind, due to a multitude of factors.

That is too bad, I was kinda hoping he would do well. Sometimes I just like to see those clumsyish strikers come through.

I think one should never refer to statistics and disregard actual, live performance. Statistics give you a certain idea of a player’s productivity, but often doesn’t paint an accurate picture of how that productivity was achieved, or how much of it was the result of the individual’s actual effort.
