Respect for Costa Rica Thread
A team actually worth of our admiration getting out of a group with three previous world cup champions, undoubtedly the group of death

Re: Respect for Costa Rica Thread
Better than England YES
Better than Italy YES in the match till now score wise [ They are FIFA 28 Rank vs Italy 9 ]
Did they beat Uruguay badly ? YES. [ No Sauraz yada yada.]
My respect they earned already for now. But again , i am pretty sure they will get kicked in KO stages very badly. Until then.

Re: Respect for Costa Rica Thread
I don't know where to even start. I feel as if I have watched a match that never happened.
Since when we started watching football we learnt that African teams cause shocks. However since when did unfancied North American teams start doing the same?
What's even more astonishing is the way Costa Rica played. Hardly ever they indicated they are a small team. They didn't try to close down space or put bodies behind the ball. In fact the amount of space Italy and especially Pirlo were allowed in the first half was unreal, almost naïve. I was left dreaming if only anyone had given Xavi that kind of space any time in the last few months.
Then they are not a team built on any one strength. Their goalkeeper is good. Defence is working really well. Forwards and midfielders can take shots, head the ball and score goals. However the most eye popping thing that I saw about this team is that they can actually play one touch in midfield.
Their victories don't seem a fluke by any means. They are simply the best performing team of this group. Maybe if any of us had actually studied all their players closely we would have given them more of a chance than we actually did. I don't think in the entire set of predictions made by various individuals at this forum even one predicted that Costa Rica would reach the knock outs.
Now quickly about Italy. Can you remember a match that you have ever watched in which Italians were so poor on the ball? I don't think I can. The careless and almost callous way in which the ball was given away was once again unreal. Barring some exceptional passes from Pirlo not one player really stood up. They hardly ever looked like scoring a goal all match and their traditional defensive qualities are conspicuous by their absence in the current team. Some have already spoken about the disconnect between the midfield and the attack. In the entire match did it ever happen that two players played a one two with each other. Were there any through balls? Almost entirely the link up between players was through long and high balls. Hardly anyone managed any dribbling on either flank. Something about this team's dynamic after having impressed in Euros and Confeds now seems terribly wrong.
Once again I say my eyes can't quite believe what I have just watched. Above all though immense respect to Costa Rica. To qualify from one of the groups of death with a game to spare when no soul alive gave you a prayer. RESPECT.

Nice parallel but at least at Dortmund we were aware of the qualities of some players while this is a total surprise.

There hasn't been a more justified thread in the history of Goal Legacy.

Re: Respect for Costa Rica Thread
seriously I got the feeling I was watching some big team playing against Italia. Such was the class they showcased. Never for a moment they appeared under pressure and on the back foot. Such dynamic and attacking football and that too executing to perfection. Unreal. Stupendous.
Deserve all the applause in the world. Not just for winning 2 matches but more importantly for the manner in which they got those wins. Simply irresistible stuff.
