Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
I have not paid much attention to the rumours because I have given up in believing anything that is on twitter or papers. Unless it's on Arsenal's website. It's not real.
However, I am interested in who you guys would take this summer. Realistically of course. For example if you think we can get Messi, do justify that or face my wrath
-The budget is £100m because we are rich and that's the budget which is generally thrown by everyone so why not.
- Keep in mind the obscure amount clubs ask for so do the deals accordingly
- Don't buy more than 6 players in total as Arsene never buys more than 5 at best
- You can sell players to add to the overall budget but only take 60% of the transfer.

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
Ok. Here goes. This team could win us the Prem with a bit of luck and hard work
------------------Rubinho (Szcz)---------------
Isla------Bonucci-----------Ogbonna-----Peluso
-------Padoin-----Aquilani-------Marrone-------
S. Pepe-----------Quagliarella-----------Vucinic
In:
Rubinho (5m)
Back 4 (47.56M)
Padoin Aquilani and Marrone (20M)
Pepe (15M. He's injury prone so we might get him for less than 12)
Quags and Vucinic (10M each)
Thoughts?
But nah, if I was a g00ner i'd want a new right back. A striker who could at least push Giroud. And above all else, a ball winning midfielder who does the ugly work. Somebody who can drag the team through games.

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
Scenario #1: Benzema
I believe he can be had. He should be the number one target. However, I realize it is hopeful. Perhaps saying it is 'realistic' is a bit of a stretch, but I'll list this first because I think it is at the very least, within the realm of possibility. One year left on his deal, didn't extend when he had the chance.. Perhaps he just wants to leave.. We have enough to afford him. Even though madrid is a super rich team, I am not sure if even they could resist getting 40-50m for him if they are just going to lose him on free in a year.
So first buy
-Benzema: 55m
Next, the most important signing would be a more physical midfielder. Bender, or Schnederlin would be the top targets. Though, with so much already gone on benzema, I think aiming for Schnederlin as a good alternative option
-Morgan Schederlin: 18m
Next, with Sagna gone, we'll need a RB. Seems Aurier is very likely going to be who we sign, and shouldn't go for too much.
-Serge Aurier: 8m
Next, I think we really need to add a young CB. Joel Veltman might be an option wenger would go for
-Joel Veltman: 10m
For the GK situation, really wanna bring in someone with experience. How about Wilfredo Caballero from Malaga? Should probably go for 5-10m
and that is about it for that summer. Around 90m on 5 players. I think I'd be ecstatic if we came close to that. Best window ever imo.
Now for the possibly more realistic? Perhaps, or perhaps now.
Primary striker target, Mario Balotelli. Milan will sell him certainly, as long as we give them what they want. They aren't exactly happy right now, I think we could get him for what they paid for him.
-Balotelli: 25m
Seeing as how we spent less on the striker in this scenario, I say we go big and just give Leverkusen whatever they want for bender. Lets make the dream happen.
-Lars Bender: 30-35m
Will Vela's release clause being so low.. we have to do something with it, even if we don't plan on bringing him in. Clubs in La Liga want him, so we should take advantage of that. I say we sell him back to Sociedad in exchange for Greizmann.
-Greizmann: 15m
That is 75m on three incredibly solid signings. Now the defense needs depth. I would be fine adding Veltman and Aurier to the mix as well if its possible.. But if not, then cheaper options or perhaps a GK on loan should do. But the starting lineup could look like
-------------Balotelli------------
Greizmann---Ozil------Walcott
-------Ramsey---Bender-------
Gibbs---Kos------Mert--Aurier
Bench: Cazorla, Vermaelen, Jack, Giroud, Jenkinson, Oxlade, GK

Nice thread, RG
GK: Ochoa, Ospina, Schmeichel, enter free agent GK
RB: Juanfran, Lichtsteiner/Caceres, Srna, enter experienced RB
CB: Promote Hayden/Pleguezuelo
DM: Luiz Gustavo, Schneiderlin, Fernando, enter dynamic tough *bleep* ball winner
RW: Vela, Remy, Cuadrado, enter player who can play across the front 3
CF: Hardest yet, 1) Benzema obviously, after that the quality drops about 2 levels, 2) Lukaku, lacks technical ability but Wenger can work with him on that, 3) Test City with a high bid for Dzeko/Negredo. None of these 3 can actually happen for many reasons so if that doesn't work out we have to settle with scrubs like Mandzukic, Jackson Martinez and Balotelli.
If everything goes to plan: Ochoa (£0m), Juanfran (£8m, release clause), Luiz Gustavo (£20m release clause), Benzema (£70m if that's what it takes , but £40m should do it) = £68m
Bench: Ochoa; Vermaelen; Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla; Podolski, Giroud;

I think you will buy Aurier, Griezzman, Remy a back up keeper and possibly Schneiderlin and sell/release some dead wood
This is the team I think you'll most likely have come September:

Yeah, yeah. I didn't mean players of French NT. I was digging Sportsy for his slight bias towards players of French NT or players in the French leagues.

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
Ozil and Cazorla don't work together because neither stays wide. But if you had Griezmann on one side, he definitely stays wide. You just can't have two AMs play winger. Aurier is also a fiercely attacking fullback that brings automatic width.Chumlum wrote:Sportsczy, weren't you just recently saying how Özil would never work as a wide attacking player?
My only concern at the time was that Sagna and Gibbs offered poor width while Ozil and Cazorla offered none... made Arsenal a very, very narrow team.

Lol.. I still wish we had managed to keep hold of Sagna.. It's the gaping void for me now.. And I don't want us to sign another Andre Santos now..

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
Well an “ultimate” or “dream” Arsenal after this transfer window, pushing at the limits of plausibility, might include Benzema, Bender, John Stones, Griezmann … for starters. But I'm going to go a little more unorthodox here and pick some players, none of whom are quite “world class,” at least not yet, but that individually interest me, or that I think can do a specific job in the context of this current Arsenal squad. The reason I'm doing it this way is because a lot of the players I'd like to see are definitely staying put (e.g. Cavani), have stated very forthrightly that they intend to stay put (e.g. Lars Bender), or would only come under very specific circumstances outside of Arsenal's control (e.g. Benzema). Plus Arsenal Football Club almost never seem to sign the players that they're most heavily linked to (e.g. Aurier, Vela, Griezmann → M'Vila, Gourcuff, etc.). So why not have some fun and get a little creative here? All but one of these signings seem individually plausible to me.
Victor Ibarbo (£8 million from Cagliari)
Kevin Volland (£15 million from Hoffenheim)
William Carvalho (£37 million from Sporting)
Nenad Tomovic (£6 million from Fiorentina)
David Ospina (£3 million from Nice) [for the Colombian connection]
Carvalho is the odd man out here in terms of attainability & believability, but given that a true, marquee, world-class forward is not really forthcoming in this transfer window, why not splash the cash on that much needed big, bad DM with good passing skills that we've all wanted? I don't expect Wenger to do something like that – not that much for a guy like Carvalho – but I'd love to see it anyway. (Or Javi Martinez, who'd cost something comparable...)
I'm happy to explain my choices more if anyone's curious. But keep in mind it's in the spirit of fun and I'm not saying these guys are worldbeaters. If Arsenal signed Benzema and either Volland or Ibarbo, though, I'd be pumped up about it.
Honorable mentions: I thought a lot about including Daley Blind and a shock bid (wooo!!!!) for Jovetic.

Realistic targets:
CF: Dzeko or Lukaku, although i like Lukaku better here for potential. 25-30 mil bid
LW: Griezmann 36 mil,
CM/DM: Luiz Gustavo, this guy is a champion. 24 mil
RB: Aurier, 10 mil
CB: Fazio 20 mil
GK: Ospina, 5 mil, although not sure there will be proper competition

Walcott-Ozil-Griezmann
-------Lukaku
bench: ospina, jenk, fazio, flamini, wilshere, oxlade, giroud, cazorla, monreal, etc...
If you are lucky enough that Madrid goes all out for Suarez, you will get benzema for 50+ millions

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
Fazio has a €10mil release clause, last I heard. If Vermaelen leaves, he'd be one of the first I'd look at as a replacement, along with Garay. I'd like a young centre back for fourth choice as well, so wouldn't mind if we went for Eric Dier at Sporting Lisbon or Liam Moore of Leicester; added bonus that they're both English. Josh Stones is another who I rate highly, but would probably be stupidly expensive right now.
For backup keeper, Ospina seems like a good option for free.
I've not seen Aurier play, so I can't name him as an ideal signing for right back. It's a long shot, but I'd like for us to try and get Piszczek from Dortmund.
In midfield, it has to be Morgan Schneiderlin. Has everything we want and need in a midfield partner for Ramsey, and is more realistic than Javi Martinez and Lars Bender. I'd be just as happy with Luiz Gustavo, too. A wild card pick here would be George Thorne of West Brom, another promising English talent who had a great season with Derby.
For the flanks, Alexis Sanchez or Griezmann. I'd prefer Alexis, since he's more versatile and has more experience at the top level, but Griezmann would certainly add a lot of quality to our wide positions. If we're being greedy, we'd get Patrick Roberts from Fulham as well.
Since a midfielder and winger would be quite expensive, I don't think we'd spend big on a striker as well, and with a shortage of targets we may not even be able to. So I'd just go with the simple solution: Loic Remy.
So, ideally:
Goalkeepers: Szczesny, Ospina, Martinez/Macey
Centre Backs: Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen/Fazio/Garay, Dier/Moore
Full Backs: Piszczek, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Monreal, Bellerin
Defensive Mids: Schneiderlin/Gustavo, Arteta, Flamini
Centre Mids: Ramsey, Wilshere
Attacking Mids: Ozil, Cazorla
Wingers/WF: Walcott, Chamberlain, Podolski, Alexis/Griezmann, Gnabry
Strikers: Giroud, Remy, Sanogo, Akpom
For backup keeper, Ospina seems like a good option for free.

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
That's a pretty good realistic line-up, Jay.
Alexis Sanchez coming in would offset the sense of deflation that Remy (a good player but not what we're all craving) would probably bring.

new young CB( Preferably English)Who can eventually overtake that positions in few years
_______________
an Experienced RB:(Debuchy/Piszczek)
Aurier could play multiple positions so signing him for 7.5M wouldnt hurt(but i understand if he comes it would be as a sure starter at RB)
_______________
DM:Gustavo/Schneiderlin/maybe Bruno Soriano though doubt he is an option
_______________
CF:Mandzukic/Dzeko(not so realistic i know)
i must state while Mandzu/Lukaku(even if possible) are upgrade on Giroud/Sanogo respectively but Doubt Arsene would Ditch the Latter duo to go for those 2
______________
doubt we will spend big money on Wide forward unless Reus was option which ISNT
though cheap squad options like Drmic/Vela but they are OFF radar so probably No One at all!
Alexis best positions is free attacker behind main forward like he does for Chile
but if there werent any better options for For CF...I Would consider him for the role up top
______________
far from ideal but just improve the team!
waiting game here we come

though cheap squad options like Drmic/Vela but they are OFF radar so probably No One at all!
Alexis best positions is free attacker behind main forward like he does for Chile
but if there werent any better options for For CF...I Would consider him for the role up top

Re: Build the Ultimate Arsenal Team
Bruno Soriano is a niche player. Brilliant passer and playmaker from deep, but he is not a ball winner at all, no physicality in his game. He wouldnt bring the impact you need.
