Re: La Selección Argentina V.2
Maradona:
“With respect to the Argentine national team, I want to say that it bothers me that some journalists do not include me among the possible Coaches,” Maradona wrote on Instagram.
“I listened to Chavo *bleep*, for example, and he didn’t even name me among the possible candidates.
“I remember his beginnings, when I was still playing, and it seems that now he does not know me anymore.
“I’m also disappointed not to be taken into account by the Argentinian newspapers, which speak of other former Coaches but not me.
“But hey, this is the sports journalism we Argentines have.
“In any case I have a three-year contract and Dynamo have my word. Although I’d give my life for the Seleccion.”

Mauro Icardi, Lautaro Martinez, Giovanni Simeone, and Paulo Dybala have all been called up to the Argentine national team for friendly matches in September.

Lautaro, Pereyra, Pezzella and Cervi all with first NT goal. Dybala has now gone 15 games without breaking his duck.

Yeah he also had a very good chance from a Messi cross, powerfully taken just straight to the keeper

Re: La Selección Argentina V.2
I would like to have some informative, objective overview on the state of Argentinean football. To begin with, do you suppose the team has been underachieving in recent years or are they just a mediocre team hyped for the presence of certain Lionel Messi? On the contrary, do you suppose there’s enough talent (within and around the team) to build a competitive team under a competent manager like Diego Simeone or Mauricio Pochettino? I don’t mean those two in particular but any other competent manager. Off-course the big, really big, question would be if the state of Argentinean Association would actually attract any competent manager to take the post.
I know there’s no Roberto Ayala, Walter Samuel, Javier Zanetti, Juan Sebastián Verón, Javier Mascherano, Ariel Ortega, Hernán Crespo or Gabriel Batistuta around; but there are quite a few players who are doing very well with their European clubs. I’m not a keen follower of non Liverpool clubs (not unless they come across us) but I think players like Paulo Dybala (he does seem the divide the opinion somewhat), Lautaro Martínez, Ángel Correa, Leandro Paredes, Erik Lamela, Giovani Lo Celso or Manuel Lanzini are held in pretty high regard.

Re: La Selección Argentina V.2
I have no idea, but am curious as well, since Argentina traditionally have been such a power house, but they are really disappointing for so long.
There must be lots of issues off the field, corruption and politics I guess? But that can be said with many other countries I suppose?
On the field, their midfield and defense is really lacking compared with up front obviously. I guess its gotta do with their style or football as well a bit like Brazil, focused more attacking and less defending in their general style of football. As well as physically weaker against many other teams.

I'm so out of touch with the NT I don't even recognize a third of the team. Never heard of this Nicolás González that scored the goal for us.

Think it was Marchesin who was in goal when Colombia made the 2nd goal. Normally dont see the guy screw up but it just got past his arm that time

There's no way some of those are true. We've definitely won in Venezuela and bolivia in the last decade.
