Liverpool deserve to be there but we'll have to see how they do with CL as well as EPL.
We have a very good core. We will need some depth though. Return of Borini, Suso & Wisdom will also provide some much needed depth. However, with guaranteed CL, we can actually attract good talents now than anytime in last five seasons.

None of Borini, Suso or Wisdom are CL proven or even CL quality.
No doubt you will improve squad depth but you will have to make drastic changes if you are to do well in both.

Football isn't won on paper or by quality of star players. It's all about creating the right psychological and tactical situation for your players, and it's the job of the manager. Man U have gone out and bought Mata for 40M, but it hasn't affected them ONE BIT for example.
All a team need is 16 players on high level who can play the whole season, in addition to some hungry young academy players. That's my philosophy on it.
On paper, we shouldn't be cruising at top, or Crystal Palace on verge of top 10 finish. Or Norwich be dead-certain to be relegated after spending 30 MILLION NET this summer. NORWICH ffs

Re: The Official Rival Thread
What about injuries? the point of playing more games is that you have an increased chance of getting injured.
You've been lucky this year and have not had a major injury crisis but if you look at teams like Dortmund and Arsenal who have, can you say you'd still be top without Gerrard, Suarez and Sturridge?
So only have 16 quality players, and I'll laugh when you're forced to play with Borini and Aspas up front against a quality CL side like Barca.

Re: The Official Rival Thread
Kick, we can't afford a full roster of established players. In fact only Chelsea, City, Real, Barca, PSG & Munich have such squad. Other teams like Dortmund, Arsenal, Atletico have depth players supplementing their regular starters. Yes, we may experience a situation where we will be missing several key players. But it's a reality for us.
Players like Borini, Suso or Wisdom shouldn't be thrown in front of teams like Munich etc. But they will rotate with key players in other games and will thus lessen the probability of not having key players in key games.
Also, you know we would be signing a few players. By the end of transfer window both our starting XI and depth will improve.

Sturridge has been out for 8 weeks, and Gerrard for 4 weeks. Suarez for 2 months as well.
In fact, Chelsea have had THE LEAST amount of injuries in top 10 teams in PL. No one is EVER injured for Chelsea (except Hazard's recent injury)
Still rather have Borini/Aspas up front rather than Torres

Tottenham weighing up move for David Moyes as Tim Sherwood's replacement this summer:
The Scot was dismissed by Manchester United on Tuesday but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy remains a keen admirer and could make a move

Re: The Official Rival Thread
The result today also means Pool would need 8 goals in their remaining 2 games to surpass our own record tally from '10. Pretty big ask considering one of them is away to Crystal Pulis.

Re: The Official Rival Thread
Van Gaal to United could not happen because he allegedly wants to bring his own staff (Patrick Kluivert, Danny Blind, Frans Hoek, Jos van Dijk, Max Reekers) while United would prefer to have Giggs under his wing as well as the current coaching staff
Perhaps United will confirm Giggs as permanent coach because they're looking again into a lesser version of SAF just like they did with Moyes. I mean Giggs's only coach has been SAF (well excluding his welsh NT coaches) I fail to see how he's going to differentiate his coaching style from SAF's.
Almost every United player underperformed this season and this is the last season of a lot of old guards player therefore a squad overhaul is needed, but do they have the financial power to do so having already spent 70m on Mata and Fellaini, having a 300k p/w player and especially after missing out the CL? Do you think United will stay midtable for a while or that's just me being too optimistic?

Re: The Official Rival Thread
Oh I'd love for them to appoint Giggs full-time. As we saw all too well with our own Robbie, appointing a popular 'club man' dressing room favourite, simply because they are a dressing room favourite, with the hopes of getting the players up and rallying, only works for so long. Once you hit a bad patch - and every side hits a bad patch - they've nowt to fall back on and things go south suddenly and swiftly.
