Liverpool
With Suarez inking a new deal, how far off are they from a return to Europe's elite?
Rodgers bizzarely gets a lot of criticism for some reason even from Liverpool fans but his signings over the past couple of years have been incredible Sturridge, Sakho, Mignolet, Coutinho, Joe Allen (he was injured morons) & Toure were all great buys for a relatively cheap fee.
They've also picked up 81 points over the last 38 games which is Top 4 form.
So what do they need this upcoming January to cement their place in the Top 4 and possible even further than that?

Re: Liverpool
I agree ... Rodgers is building a good project .. considering that players as Coutinho and Sturridge weren't so good in Inter and Liverpool ( expecially the Brazilian), few imagined that they would be so important. I was surprised about Mignolet' s performance this year ... I don't remember him so much good to Sunderland
I think they need of upgrade in midfield ... but I have no names to buy in January .. I read they are much interested to Fernando Rege

Re: Liverpool
Still lack some elements to be a regular CL team. Not to mention the competition is ever increasing in the PL and there are a lot of teams who can blow money as they wish nowadays.
They're doing well but i think there's still lot of work to do from a long term point of view

Re: Liverpool
I haven't been following Liverpool closely enough to give an indepth answer on what players they need to strengthen. But in terms of form and results, they have been great. From the few games I have watched them play, Rodgers has them playing some good football, and with Suarez and Sturridge striking up a lethal partnership, they are scoring goals for fun lately, Something they struggled to do last season.
I think atm they are dead certs for top 4.

Re: Liverpool
They still can't touch Man City and Chelsea... the next three years will be the year of these two teams dominating

Mignolet has been a top goalkeeper in the league for a couple of seasons now.
He pretty much saved Sunderland from relegation last season.
Fernando is going to sign a new deal with Porto.

We had no problems scoring last season, we had trouble defending.
We still do this season, but we've improved in open play. Still can't defend set pieces, though...

Those players have been great, yes. Liverpool's criticism comes from the fact that he's spent 40m on "potential" when we needed to upgrade the initial starting XI. (We already have Sterling, Henderson, Coutinho, Suso, Wisdom, Kelly even, Flanagan, etc we need to groom. "Young" players don't get better sitting on the bench. And for a some what "title challenge" squad, our bench is really really inexperienced / weak. Aspas is one of the few "experienced" players on the bench and hasn't settled in the league just yet...
15m for Joe Allen, 10m for Borini, 7m on Ilori, 7m on Luis Alberto... that could of went to two "WC" talents in the starting XI and would of improved our bench at the same time. Instead, he went for potential. Granted Joe Allen has done well recently, and he was always quality (I wanted him to sign when Rodgers came) but he's only in the team because Gerrard's injured... we sort of overpaid for him as well.
We need a number 10 / attacking midfielder in the summer. Simply put, we need goals / creativity in midfield. We need a Lampard. If we get that, we'll fight for the league. I'm sure of it. (That is of course, we continue playing as a team / the attacking possession based system I keep banging about in the Liverpool section.) Before people mention Coutinho, I've always seen him better on the left hand side cutting in as an inside forward. A back-up for Lucas could come in handy too, but the main target has to be a CAM. (We already have a defensive midfielder, support/ box to box/ deep-lying playmaker, we have no one in midfield that offers anything in the final third. I rate Henderson highly, but he's not consistent enough to play that role, and is a lot better playing 'deeper' next to a Lucas.)
Liverpool fans are screaming for a box-to-box but I hope they can see Henderson / Allen can play that role now.
