Juventus and Livorno will reportedly have to pay Chelsea €21m as a result of his move to Italy in January 2005.

The Old Lady netted the Romanian for nothing with the help of Livorno to get around non EU player restrictions at the time.

Mutu was available after he was sacked by the Premier League club in October of the previous year for failing a drugs test.

Chelsea argued that they should have received a fee and FIFA initially ruled that the striker would need to pick up the cost.

However, the Gazzetta dello Sport now claims that FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber have decided the two Italian clubs will have to hand over €21m in damages – which includes €3.3m in interest.

Juve will now appeal the decision with CAS – the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“We have very little to do with this,” Livorno President Aldo Spinelli told TMW on Friday morning. “We are calm.

“This is a problem for lawyers from Juventus and Chelsea. We are unconnected to all of this.”

That's ridiculous. So was no team supposed to sign Mutu after Chelsea released him? If that's the case, then Fifa should have banned him for a longer amount of time. Chelsea took the risk in signing him and took an even bigger risk in releasing him. This is crazy to me.
