Spanish striker for WC
So... plenty of options atm
- Soldado, Torres, Negredo - all PL strikers, with Soldado and Negredo more of a physical presence
- Llorente, although he was given few options
- Villa
- The "false 9" possibility - Fabregas or even Silva playing there.
Who would you choose and why?
PS: There should also be a topic for their wingers and their central midfielders, they have an absolutely amazing depth.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Was thinking about this earlier. They haven't really got an elite striker. Then again nor have Brazil or Germany.
However the strikers they do have are good enough to succeed with the players behind them.
Thing with playing a false 9 is they might become a bit too passive. Plus Silva/Fabregas aren't really false 9's anyway. They're midfielders and don't have all the attributes to be a false 9.
They need to be a bit direct too. I'd probably start the striker who has scored the most goals by the end of the season.

Germany at least have good finishers in the first 11 in the likes of Reus and Muller. Spain lack that.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Llorente if the situations was different, but that really aint happening so forget him.
I say Negredo to be honest. He isnt clinical, even to the degree of Soldado, but Soldado with no service is completely invisible and its not a given Spain will get him service actually...Negredo can at least bring others into play and has the ability to score a goal from nothing every now and then.
Has Cesc as a false 9 ever actually worked against anyone worth talking about?
Torres has about as much business starting as I do.

Negredo has been in pretty good form since last season. He has really improved his game and is much better than he was 2 years back.
I'd go with him upfront.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Torres has actually looked pretty good this season but he's not getting consistent playing time with Chelsea. And his style never fit Spain's after Aragones left so it's pointless. Morata is lighting it up in the U21s. That would be my personal first choice.
Otherwise hope for Diego Costa's naturalization, and even if that doesn't happen Negredo as a starter ain't bad.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Germany have Reus/Muller/Gomez (when fit), as well as Ozil, Kroos, and now Schurrle who can put the ball in the net. Brazil got Neymar, Fred, Oscar all of who are more consistent then any Spanish player in putting the ball in the back of the net. At least Neymar/Fred from Brazil are Oscar is debatable.
I hope Negredo can stay at this level if not get better, but I'd stick with him and at times when need maybe against weaker opposition rest him and play Cesc as false 9. Mata can also put the ball into the net would be a good as super sub.

Considering how Spain play and pretty much all the options are scrubby does it even matter lol?

It's gotta be Negredo or Soldado. Torres shouldn't even get a call up.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Villa has been doing well for Atletico hasnt he? if so he shoupd start. Negredo has improved but is still not good enough to start in my opinion. Soldado is worthless without service, and Llorente is not getting enough playing time for Juve. Torres is also way too inconsistent. If Villa hasnt been doing well or ends up not available, id pick Llorente. Even though hes barely been playikg hes still better than the others in my opinion.
As for Germany not having a top CF, I dont know what cave youre living in. Klose is still a great forward, Gomez is injured but is soon to be back and was doing great preinjury. Reus, Podolski, and Muller can all play as a CF to great effect. Schurrle too but hes a step down from the rest despite his performance yesterday. Theres still Kiessling too.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Negredo should probably start atm but form can change drastically over the months
personally I think Soldado, Negredo and Morata should be called up to the WC and whoever is the most compatible with the team should play

I feel as though I want Callejon to travel. I think he could contribute more than most of the names being thrown around here. Del Bosque seems smitten with Negredo, which means he's locked in.

Re: Spanish striker for WC
Villa is doing well, but has probably lost forever the ability to outrun defenders.
He wasnt lightening fast in his prime, but over 5-10m he could get seperation to get a shot off. He might have lost that now.
Still capable of wonderful finishes with either foot.
Its early and as Hala said, form can change alot between now and the time you have to make a decision.
