Re: The Official 'Next Permanent Manager' Thread - II
By the way, I forgot to post this earlier, but here is WAGNH's take on him:
http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/features/2016/2/25/11116880/antonio-conte-chelsea-profile
Worth a read, and they raise an interesting point, Italians and Chelsea traditionally go together well.
Vialli, Zola, Di Matteo, Ancelotti have all tasted success with the club, let's hope Conte can join this list.

Was actually thinking about that just yesterday. Well, the managerial part specifically.

Yea, we don't/haven't as a club had very strong Italian connections in our history, but the ones we have had, have done very well indeed.

Plus, people from the same countries tend to do things in a similar way, so perhaps that will extend to Conte?

Kick wrote:My main worry with Conte is his love of 2 strikers.
Almost every formation he often uses contains 2 CFs. Whether it is the 4-2-4, 3-5-2, 3-3-4, or 4-3-1-2. He has only sparingly used the 4-3-3 and by the looks, very rarely used the 4-2-3-1.
So I can see a formation change for us if he comes in, hopefully to the 4-3-3, unless he opts for the 4-4-2/4-2-4.
I don't know who would play as our second CF alongside Costa, though.
Just to pitch in. Conte's first league win used 4-3-3 for the most part. He adapted to the 3-5-2 cause it fit the team best. But he always wanted wingers. Same for Italy, its been between 3-5-2, 4-3-3 and 4-4-2. Never a 4-3-1-2 though. For whatever reason he doesn't normally play with a 10. He tried to transition Italy from the 3-5-2 he used when he first got there, to a 4-3-3. We'll see what he uses for the friendlies this month.

Thanks for the input, mate.
Sounds like we will be playing a 4-3-3 then

Any formation which threatens to result in Oscar's marginalisation and eventual obsoleteness is one I can get firmly behind

I've been in favour of the 4-3-3 for a while, tbh.
Buy a new CB, CM or two if we sell Oscar. Maybe a CF too, if we sell Remy and don't keep Pato or Flopcao.

Sampaoli just said he was first choice to take over until Conte came along, he was then made to compete against Conte for the job and lost out.
Basically confirms Conte is our new manager.
