Moyes gone by Christmas?
Man Utd look really bad, cant help feeling that Moyes is out of his depth at this level.
Have Fergie and the board made an error choosing him? i know its early doors but he looks clueless

He'll be given time apparently. I don't think they want instant success.

Re: Moyes gone by Christmas?
Why are people pinning this on Moyes... you all seem to have such short memories...
Liverpool were doing this to SAF's teams regularly, in fact last year they were all over Man Yoo like a bad rash till Shelvey's red card.
Not sure how this proves Man Yoo have regressed when this happened under Fergie too.

There's no way on earth a club like Manchester United will go for endless trophy less years because they have a manager who needs to improve at there expense

Re: Moyes gone by Christmas?
I don't want to overreact from one or two games but he is in a very precarious position for a couple reasons.
1)SAF's teams were better then any team I've ever seen in any sport at coming back from behind especially in the EPL and his late game management was second to none.
It's not Moyes' fault that he's not on par with SAF on this aspect of management as I don't think any coach is now or maybe even ever.
2) Seeing as Moyes can't inspire the late game heroics from this team and he either draws or losses the close games SAF would pull out of the fire then he will have a hard time winning the league.
3)Because SAF had the uncanny ability to influence the end of the games in the EPL he covered up some warts and talent shortcomings the team may have and was able to compete on the highest level with let's face it less talent then a lot of the biggest teams in the world (especially in the last couple years which is basically the team Moyes inherited).
4)I don't think any coach would turn down the opportunity to coach Man United. But lets face it, Moyes has never taken on a project like this as the expectations at Everton were so far below what he needs to accomplish at United.
Plus if he finished in the top 5-10 places in the league and had a decent cup run here or there it was considered a great coaching job.
5) The hardest thing in sports is to make that jump from 2nd to 4th place to winning competitions. There are a ton of very good coaches who can make teams overachieve and finish in Europe or go further in tournaments then they were supposed to and they are considered great coaches.
6) It's the special few coaches who can make that next jump to winning trophies and then even fewer coaches can make the jump to winning consistently.
Moyes has never displayed the ability to do that although he didn't have the talent at Everton, and it's an unknown as to weather he posses that ability.
7) United took a gamble on Moyes and I think even the brass at United probably thought it was a long shot for him to be the long term replacement to SAF.
We will see if he can do it but I agree with the tone of the thread that he maybe gone sooner than later.
Especially because these players are so used to winning that they know Moyes has never been at there level and if he starts to show that he's not capable of managing the team to the same level the players are not going to respect him and will stop playing for him.
The situation can just turn from good to bad very quickly and it's not just Moyes as SAF casts such a huge shadow over the club it was always going to be next to impossible for the man replacing him to repeat what SAF accomplished.

Re: Moyes gone by Christmas?
Well they would have gotten someone more highly rated than Moyes if they wanted instant success. Moyes was appointed because they wanted someone who would blend in with the clubs values etc.

Re: Moyes gone by Christmas?
Make no mistake, the club is at a very different level from when SAF was hired to now.
To think Moyes will have the same or even close to the same amount of time to prove he can take Man United to the heights there used to would be foolish.
It's not just United either it's just how football is nowadays, I mean look at the managers in the EPL and how long they have been at there clubs.
I think outside of Wenger at Arsenal the next longest standing coach with the same team in the EPL is Pardew at Newcastle for 2 1/2 years.

Yes, he will. He will get at least two seasons even with no titles.

I wont compare SAF and Moyes at all, but I realise that was bound to happen. I would wait until January to judge him properly

Re: Moyes gone by Christmas?
Well obviously United fans will give SAF the benefit of the doubt since he made them what they are today. Moyes needs to earn their respect, he shouldn't be warranted shit, I can see the fans turning against him real fast real soon if this continues. Hopefully, though, he stays United manager forever, because Smeagol is clueless.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Why are people pinning this on Moyes... you all seem to have such short memories...
