Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. XII
Right now, no one can say AVB has not learnt from his time at Chelsea. He's a much better manager now but I he still has some improving to do. Glad to see he was willing to change at last, rather than be stubborn and stick to that shit philosophy.
This Spurs team look scary. They could challenge for the title in a season or two if they continue their upward curve.

Yeah... AVB learned a lot from his 3-4 months at Chelsea. As did Di Matteo and Rafa Benitez. Amazing how much knowledge and know-how get crammed into you in short time periods at that club.

Arsenal and PSG contact Real Madrid for Casillas, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Fullbacks still weak link for Spurs. There might be a chance that they snap up Coentrao on deadline day.

Still need a better LB tbh Rose isn't good enough for the level Spurs want to achieve. Walker is hardly good enough for the level Spurs want to achieve as well, but then again he has Paulinho and Capoue potentially covering for him every time he loses his defensive positioning (often).

Don't be silly. Doesn't take a scientist to realise he isn't making the same mistakes tactically.sportsczy wrote:Yeah... AVB learned a lot from his 3-4 months at Chelsea. They need attacking fullbacks if they're going to play a 4-3-2-1... I think Rose and Walker are fine, nothing exceptional but not terrible.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. XII
AVB wasn't allowed to put his system in place at Chelsea because the old guard blocked him and the owner didn't have his back... it was a complete waste of time for AVB tbh. His tactics had no chance of working; The difference at Spurs is that he's the boss and he's brought his players that can make his tactics work...
No learning other than making sure he has enough power to do his job AND work for someone that has more patience than a 13 year old girl.

Tottenham have got decent wingers in Lennon, Chadli and Townsend, I don't think they're suddenly going to go so narrow as to play with Lamela, Eriksen and Soldado up top.

Lamela :
“Perhaps I wasn’t able to express all I could’ve and wanted to do here," Lamela told ANSA.
"It’s also true that there was something missing for the whole team.
“I hope this season will go better. I saw the lads are hungry to do well and are very concentrated. I wish the club, the coach and my team-mates to go as far as possible."
“I am proud to have played for Roma and hope one day to return," he added.
“As for myself, now I hope to do well with Tottenham in London. I am ready. I want to thank and salute the fans who always behaved well with me. I embrace them all. They will always be in my heart.”

I agree....Art Morte wrote:Tottenham have got decent wingers in Lennon, Chadli and Townsend, I don't think they're suddenly going to go so narrow as to play with Lamela, Eriksen and Soldado up top.
Front 6 of Capoue-Paulinho-Eriksen-Lamela-Soldado-Chadli is most likely outcome IMO.
But i reckon they will rotate a lot.... Holtby, Townsend, Dembele and Sandro will still play a lot of games.
Can see Spurs going hard as possible in all competitions as well as top 4 if i'm honest.

GDS have a hard enough time with Italy. They should try to clean themselves up there first lol.

Tbh I think Spurs can challenge for the title if they add Eriksen as well and AVB finds some sort of a system to fit all of those guys together.
Probably not this year though. I'm expecting a title push maybe in 2014-15 season

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. XII
1. You're forming your opinion based on what a few papers sparked. How apt. I wonder why the "old guard" didn't block Benitez who who they actually dislike.sportsczy wrote:AVB wasn't allowed to put his system in place at Chelsea because the old guard blocked him and the owner didn't have his back... it was a complete waste of time for AVB tbh. No learning other than making sure he has enough power to do his job.
2. He was given unlimited funds and had TWO transfer windows to make whatever changes he wanted to make and bring in whatever players he wanted to bring in but he chose to stick with Kalou, Malouda, etc. The only player he bought was Mata. Brilliant buy, which is why you'd wonder why he didn't spend more. I can still remember him saying the old players had won a lot of trophies in the past so they were good enough for the season. Nobody stopped him from making changes. Don't talk like he wasn't allowed to bring in new players, please.
3. Every other thing aside, he was clueless in a lot of matches. Playing Bosingwa at LB against Napoli when Cole was fully fit. Playing a really high defensive line vs Arsenal when the only pacy defender he had was Luiz(who was struggling anyway). Making worthless subs in matches we were losing, subs that had absolutely no effect on the game and made no sense whatsoever. A good manager adapts to the strength of his players or at least brings in the players that fit his style. He did neither of those.
4. If by "owner didn't have his back" you mean letting him run us into the ground and miss out on CL spots(which we didn't recover from, anyway, luckily we won the CL) then I'm happy Roman didn't "have his back." Let me know when Madrid, Barca, Bayern, etc let a manager run them into the ground.
Its clear he was naive but, like I said, I'm happy he has learnt from(most of) his mistakes.

Going from top 4 to title is mental more than anything, they have to believe they can do it.McAgger wrote:Tbh I think Spurs can challenge for the title if they add Eriksen as well and AVB finds some sort of a system to fit all of those guys together.
Chelsea, Man City and Man Yoo all have a massive mental edge on them irrelevant of talent pool.
Maybe next season if they can get top 4 and push on again.

Barca also contacted us for Luiz. We contacted Man United for Rooney. Man United contacted Barca for Cesc, etc etc. That is one side to the rumour. Nobody ever said Madrid was willing to sell or that Iker was willing to leave. BMac plsB-Mac wrote:Blue Barrett wrote:The thing is, Iker isn't leaving. Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. XII
If things go well for them this season(top 4), I think they can challenge next season. Right now, most of those players have won f*ck all in their careers. They're not mentally ready. The talent is definitely there though.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Going from top 4 to title is mental more than anything, they have to believe they can do it.McAgger wrote:Tbh I think Spurs can challenge for the title if they add Eriksen as well and AVB finds some sort of a system to fit all of those guys together.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. XII
Barely hanging on to 4th and looking worse every week while Spurs were gaining a lot of momentum. We clearly weren't going to make top 4(neither were we going to win the CL) under AVB. We were also 1st at one point in the season. It was a continuous downward spiral in weekly results.CBarca wrote:Wasn't Chelsea 4th when AVB was sacked?
