Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23260688
Are these actually decent players or are they signing just average blokes who will do little to improve the team?
Sunderland have signed France Under-20 international midfielder El Hadji Ba on a three-year deal.
The 20-year-old was a free agent after leaving Le Havre last month, where he scored once in 13 games.
Ba joins fellow signings Jozy Altidore, David Moberg Karlsson, Cabral, Modibo Diakite, Valentin Roberge and Duncan Watmore at the Stadium of Light.
And Velez Sarsfield say left-back Gino Peruzzi is set to meet with Sunderland after the two clubs agreed a deal.
The Argentine club has confirmed on its official website, and say the 21-year-old will travel to England to discuss terms.

Re: Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
Are you going to do this with Norwich too ?
I personally feel a lot of these players won't do a lot to improve the first eleven and just packing up the squad.
Obviously hugely biased though, however Giaccherini and Peruzzi if they come off would be very impressive signings.

Re: Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
Good to see them making those signings in comparison to the likes of Bramble. Di Canio will make them play good football and it's good to see
NQDP will shed some light on those transfers

Re: Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
The likes of Karlsson, Whatmore & Ba are for the development squad and we probably wont see much of them for a wile yet.
We released allot of players from the youth squad at the end of the season, MoN didn't really give them a chance and they were starting to get on so we need to replenish the youth ranks.
I think Roberge and Diakite will be squad players. We already had a tiny squad and after releasing players we only had like 3 defenders on the books with first team experience.
Giaccherini, Peruzzi & Jozy will probably go straight into the first team.
Still expecting a fair few more incoming, have a sneaky feeling we might still end up with Rose, him and Huddlestone in a package deal.

Yep that sounds about right....
I have a question though, do you plan to play Altidore and Fletcher together and if so what are the plans for Sessegnon?

Sunderland please take Matri, Motta, Padoin, Paolo Deglie and Peluso all for a combined offer of 35m,
we would be honored if you could, oh and Martinez "el loko dancer" too for free if you can...

Re: Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
Don't think Fletch will be back until Sep, so we will prob start with Sess and Altidore upfront.
then it will be a combination of the 3, or maybe Sess playing in more of a midfield role behind the forwards.
Deal for Mavrias from Panathinaikos is also close apparently

Check Juve's wage bill and you will find Giaccherini's wage at the bottom.

No wonder he left the club.

Re: Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
I actually happy for him now that he can go make some good money in the EPL.(Considering he's 28 already). He wouldnt have earned anywhere near that salary Sunderland are offering at Italian clubs.

We signed him from a team who later got relegated, as a rotation sub.
As for players like Lucio, when they're old and coming in on a free, it frees us up to offer them more wages because we don't actually have to buy them. He's gone now anyway.
Giac needs to make some bank, he deserves this.

Norwich have been doing pretty much what I expected, but both Villa and Sunderland have been spending less than I had anticipated.
...might still do one on Norwich, too, if off-season syndrome gets too severe

Fair enough if your bigger signings are still to come, but you came close to relegation and I thought with you it was more down to the weakness of the first XI than with anyone else of the could-have-been-relegated clubs, so I expected to see first XI improving signings first and these fillers(?) only after that.

Re: Do Sunderland know what they're doing?
Do Sunderland have any plans to supplement their wide players? Jozy is a forward who thrives on service from out wide, and Sunderland weren't particularly effective with that type of play last season. Johnson, McClean, and Larsson have all looked like effective wide players at one point or another, but never consistently and never together at Sunderland.
