Re: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Borussia Dortmund #17
urbaNRoots wrote:I've seen enough of Aubameyang and Reus to know - Aubameyang is definitely faster - he's a freak... but people especially Dortmund fans can remember Odonkor - he was just as fast yet so clueless.
I'm concerned about his overall game, some part of his game are very Gervinho-esque, some of his one-on-one misses are lulzworthy, he has good movement and can dribble past players but the technical side of his game is very poor for now - passing, shooting technique, first touch and more should improve.
Alright I guess I shouldn't have based my judgement off of youtube clips then
But, one thing you cannot deny. Aubameyang clearly doesn't know HOW to use his pace or at least, not NEARLY as well as Reus can use his own speed...
Compare the number of goals Reus scored by outpacing BuLi and CL defenders with the ONE goal Aubameyang scored last season by outpacing a Ligue 1 defender.
Aubameyang might as well be faster, but either he doesn't know how to use his pace or saint-etienne doesn't know how to use him (most likely the latter).
I'm sure Kloppo can mold Auba into a MUCH better striker and teach him the ways of the jedi..
But as of right now, Reus' speed clearly is more effective than Auba's and I think that matters more...
P.S ^ Changing the direction of my argument is my personal way of admitting defeat
Re: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Borussia Dortmund #17
Guys, I don't get to follow German League (for that matter any League) much. Do you suppose PEA is a future replacement for Lewa!!! Don't you think Reus, Henrikh & Kuba will be behind Lewa!

Hm. I guess Kloppo will be happy that he has a couple of options now. Reus and Lewa can both be used as CFs, while the option "Patrick" and Reus on the wings could be tempting to overrun opponents with their pace, with Mkhitaryan playing as CAM behind Lewa.
What I'd hope, is that Mustafa Amini will be able to make the step to the seniors, too. Oh, and I almost forgot that there is also Marvin Duksch who might get a chance as CF.

The Borussia Dortmund attacker was clocked at 3.7 seconds over a 30-metre run - faster than the Jamaican sprinter at the start of his record-breaking 100m in Berlin in 2009
New Borussia Dortmund signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has wasted no time impressing his new employers after he was timed sprinting at a speed faster than Usain Bolt.
The 24-year-old ran 30 metres in 3.7 seconds while at Dortmund's pre-season training camp in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland - almost 0.1 seconds faster than the iconic Olympian in his record-breaking 100m run in Berlin in 2009.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc was left stunned by the former Saint-Etienne striker's achievement, telling Bild: "Pierre is surely one of the fastest players who has ever played here."
Legendary coach Otto Pfister, who has known Aubameyang throughout his career, has warned the Bundesliga to be wary of the Gabon international's threat next season.
"Aubameyang will be fatal to the Bundesliga - but only to his opponents," he added. "I've never seen a player so explosive as he."
Aubameyang, who joined BVB in a reported €13 million deal from Saint-Etienne last week, made his first appearance for Jurgen Klopp's side in a 3-1 win over Basel on Wednesday.
Any doubts he's not quicker, doesn't mean hes better of course not but he's certain quicker

Well, that means something, considering David Odonkor was a Dortmund player, too. Let's hope that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang usually takes the ball with him while he goes turbo, something Odonkor usually failed at.julias wrote:Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc was left stunned by the former Saint-Etienne striker's achievement, telling Bild: "Pierre is surely one of the fastest players who has ever played here."

I'll offer my second humble apology for saying that Reus is faster than Auba... Seems like I'm eating my own words right about now..
But I don't think theres anyone on these forums who would say that Auba can USE his pace better than Reus..
Re: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Borussia Dortmund #17
Well, isn't it a bit irrelevant whether Reus can use his pace better than Aubameyang or vice versa? They both currently look really good, and Mkhitaryan seems to be a perfect buy, too.

Agreed no question about it!
I'm happy for both our transfers.. El Kloppo has done it again!
Re: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Borussia Dortmund #17

Woah , he'll be yards ahead of these Bundesliga defenders, really can't believe how quick this guy is.However, what matters is what he does with the ball. Also as great as it is an achievement to be faster than Bolt over 30 metres , we must also take into account that Bolt's start has never been good and he is actually slow out of the gates. Nonetheless, I hope he can be a success for Dortmund!

True... But remember, Acceleration > Top Speed
In football that's the case at least..
Re: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Borussia Dortmund #17
Don't get your panties in a bunch we all know Reus is the better player. So what if he is inferior to Auba in certain aspects.

Off topic but two things
1. CR is faster then reus once he gets into his stride. By a significant amount as well
2. Bolt's acceleration is average. While it is a pretty damn good achievement, its not utterly amazing.

Agreed though like Bale, it's only a straight like dash that their speed is impressive. As for as weaving in and out with a change in direction (agility) I think Reus is much better.

Bolt's acceleration is average amongst other elite sprinters acceleration. His acceleration is average amongst the 30 or 40 best sprinters in the world.
So obviously, PEA's feat is incredible considering he isn't a sprinter, he is a footballer.

Well, there are definitely not many defenders who can match this speed. Maybe one should change his nickname from Spiderman to The Flash

How can his acceleration be average when he normally starts worse that most of the rest and still smashes everyone into oblivion?free_cat wrote:Bolt's acceleration is average amongst other elite sprinters acceleration. His acceleration is average amongst the 30 or 40 best sprinters in the world.

I'm sorry but you cannot have average acceleration when you do 100m in 9.5 whatever, he comfortably COMFORTABLY races sub 9.8. It's not possible to have average acceleration and clock stupid times over such a short distance...

I agree Julias. I really don't understand what he's talking about either, unless he means his acceleration in the initial acceleration phase but even so, I've seen analyses and graphs that show that his acceleration is actually at its zenith when he leaves the gates which means he's only really slow when's he's close to the finish line or when he knows he's about to win. ( Which is most of the time)
OT - What a dream debut PEA had, I'm really pleased with his performance , while it was good to see his pace , I really liked his runs that gave him his goals; I felt the match against Augsburg was more a showcase of his dangerous movement than his speed ! I hope to see much more like this from him over the whole season .

But yea on topic I think PEA is going to be great for Dortmund, I first thought he was going to be molded as a replacement for Lewa but it's clear he has been brought in as a depth signing and another attacking option.
Looking good for Dortmund

Bolt's first phase of sprinting (ie, his first 20 meters) are average compared to other TOP sprinters. He is usually not the fastest in those first 20 meters, but not the slowest.MaestroFavre wrote:julias wrote:How can his acceleration be average when he normally starts worse that most of the rest and still smashes everyone into oblivion?free_cat wrote:Bolt's acceleration is average amongst other elite sprinters acceleration. What I was trying to say is that Bolt's acceleration is fantastic compared to anyone else in the world outside those elite group of TOP sprinters. That's why I'm saying PEA feat of being faster than Bolt in 30 metres is incredible.

Bolt is in the pack in the first 20 meters or so... he only gets into top speed once his long strides get going. Takes a little bit to get there since he's so tall.
The shorter runners typically start the quickest because they can get their legs pumping sooner.
Carl Lewis was very much like Bolt. Very similar.
