"There is no ideological narrative at stake here," said Gazidis. "The ideological narrative is we want to have the best possible players, the best possible team and compete for trophies and Arsène will do what he thinks is right to do that. There is no philosophical line in the sand and I suspect that he would pay £25m for Lionel Messi."
i dont think there is anything much in the interview to get excited.. just read the interview as a whole and dont pick single sentences from it.. first thing the fans or medias choices are almost never Arsenes.. and he would happily spend 25 million on Messi ? seriously.. indirectly could mean not more than 12.5 million for Jovetic and not more than 15 million for Rooney and not more than 10 million for Fellaini..
Well to be fair that 25m figure was the one offered to Gazidis, so common sense indicates that he was just using Messi as the for instance to say that of course Wenger would spend that much for what he felt was the right player - NOT that he was saying that Wenger would only pay 25m for Messi!

lol.. i too was taking the funny side of it.. but we have come across such statements in the past many times.. and the fans who get carried by this expect too much, get disappointed and start rants.. it is the reality that we are not yet in a position to compete financially with those money clubs..Chumlum wrote:Wilson37 wrote:"We have a certain amount which we've held in reserve. LOL at fellow gunners.
Remember the time when Eisfeld was our only signing ffs.
We should be happy whoever comes in.
Fellaini is exactly what we need in midfield and yes he can play as DM.

If we buy Fellaini I don't see how he starts regularly. Him, Wilshere, Ramsey, Fellaini competing for two spots. Hes getting older now as well I think making him a rotation player will be good for him

Carlos Vela's agent, Eduardo Hernandez states he's pretty adamant that Arsenal won't repurchase him & he'll stay at Real Sociedad.
Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Carles Puyol has admitted David Villa is leaving Barça; "Yeah, but I don't know where he's going." (@AlbaEspana)
Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread

Fellaini at Arsenal would be Song MK2, lazy, slow, without Song's passing abilities with a huge fee and wages. Guaranteed flop.

For those who put stock in Geoff says:
@GeoffArsenal: I can't confirm about the buy out clause being triggered however there has been recent contact with Everton regarding Fellani.
@GeoffArsenal: Ohh, 1 more thing... if Arsenal can meet Wayne Rooney's personal terms he will be an Arsenal player.
Mentioned that Rooney is keen on a move, too.

I honestly don't know how anyone can accuse Fellaini of being lazy or slow

Dont spend 22 on Fellaini, spend less on a DM, and pay Rooney what he wants, we will make it back in jersey sales.

Now to kill any excitement that might built up overnight:
@bbcsport_david: Fellaini camp, #efc & #afc all deny release clause met. Arsenal not in for Rooney or Cesar. Jovetic on radar but not near top

As a DM he is, Urban is 100% spot on. Fellaini isn't even a 10m player in the role you would use him in.
Don't you guys remember when he played there for Everton? they were finishing bottom half there's a reason why he was moved from there in the first place.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Rather than buying Fellaini for 22mio,paying him hefty wages and playing him in a position in which he played 2 years back,Why don't Arsenal just sign Capoue?
He is younger than Fellaini and has been playing as DM for quite sometime and he can be acquired for relatively lesser amounts(say 10-15mio) and can be lesser wages as well.
Even the Toulouse chairman is expecting Capoue to be sold this summer and I hope Arsenal don't disappoint him.
With the AW factor,he can definitely be signed easily when compared to Fellaini.
