BarrileteCosmico wrote:Man, what Juve need is an Argentine star. If we look at Inter's recent success it's clear that the more Argentines in your team, the likelier you are to win! Everyone knows this, of course. That's why Inter signed Alvarez, and Roma are signing Lamela. That's why Palermo refuse 30M offers for Pastore, and Napoli 25M ones for Lavezzi. Hell, even Juve knows this, they're trying to get Aguero at all costs
Last year is, obviously, the exception that proves the rule
It's fine saying that, but because we have no choice but to disclose our transfer budget everyone wants to bleed us dry. I don't think we can compete for any Argentine players.
We used to have a strong Argentine link, Many from River I think. But we haven't had a truly great Argentine for a long time

As for the TIM Cup I don't know how I feel
We won it in 05 and 06....Didn't win the league either year
Didn't win the next 3 (winning 3 straight scudetti) but we won it in 2010....and went on to win 5 trophies....
So we can safely say the winner is destined either to crash and burn horrificly or achieve incredible greatness
Hmm, that's right your big season broke the chain effectively.
To be honest I think both are bad tournaments, they give extremely bad impressions of where a team is at. At both the TIM and Berlusconi Cup Milan were nothing short of a mess...
Inter looked like obvious front runners, We looked odds on for top four and as for Milan, after those two cups if anyone thought they would definately win the Scudetto they were a.) crazy or b.) really, really crazy.
Llajic was on fire in preseason and Fiorentina looked like they were top four hopefuls....
In summary, I will grin and swallow the insults if we have a bad pre-season in the knowledge that could actually be a good thing.

You asked what's missing though Nick. That is what's missing. We've signed twenty-players at least since our return to Serie B and what have we accomplished ? Which of the players have been amazing ? Moggi's transfers were.

I'm sorry, did I say something false ? You call Cassano a lunatic but Marotta is the true lunatic.

Ibrahimovic...
I thought it was settled that Ibra=scudetto. Then sell him off and you'll win the Champions League. geez, it's not that complicated.

It's more like luck being against him for the past few years.
We all know how much of a beast Sissoko was in 08/09. Unfortunately, he got an injury near the end of the season (vs Chelsea). When he returned from injury, the season was pretty much over. But that was all right, because he played fantastically for most of the season.
In 09/10 under Ferrara, he was playing averagely, mostly because Ferrara was partnering him with Melo, and neither of them was a good passer lol. That system did not work out well. When Zaccheroni arrived (still 09/10), he actually stuck Sissoko out on the left wing (!!!), which destroyed Sissoko's morale and made him play badly for the rest of the season.
In 10/11, he played in his natural position for a few games, and actually showed some of his 08/09 talent. The rest of the season, however, he was on the bench because of Melo and injury.
Lots of misfortune hindered Sissoko. Hopefully he'll be back on track in 11/12.

@7amood11: Sissoko is tipped to leave, but admittedly he was not as bad as people said he was and he genuinely tried and was admirable in his performances. If he does leave though I hope we can at least recoup some of the money.

Conte does prefer him over Melo right? That factor will affect the situation. Right now I think he has a 35% chance of leaving, and if he does, we can probably make a profit if we try to sell him to ManCity lol. We signed him for 7m, it will be fairly tricky to sell him for more than that considering that he's barely played last season.

Haha I'd laugh if Man City gave us like 15M for him. Seriously though I think he's going to PSG so possibly 10M would be a fair price for him. I'm not too sure what Conte has in mind but I personally would opt for Melo because when he's on his game, he's near impossible to stop.

Re: what's missing for Juventus to get back on top?
first of all we need the winning mentality that we've lacked in these past few years..and for that to happen the coach should impose himself on the team..
he should be the one to call the shots at juventus and i dont want to see another coach who would meekly surrender in mid january or february and make cowardly statements like "dont expect me to compete with the elite clubs with this squad ".. and so on..
and a substantial budget has been alloted this year and marotta must arguably have his best transfer campaign of his career if he needs to keep his job at juventus..his worst transfer last summer was appointing a mediocre coach in del neri who knew nothing else other than 4-4-2..much so that marotta had to actually sell some of our quality players like trez, diego and giovinco and bought 10 mediocre players like simone pepe ,malaka crap etc that would fit his formation..
conte's formation is more or less the same and the foundation has already been laid upon..which is why i am stressing upon the fact that we dont need a revolution ,we need a couple of world class quality additions that would make a huge difference to the team...that is all..
and most importantly the support of the fans which has been always there no matter how bad the team has performed..
i believe time is running out and this is a very important season for the future of juventus..we cant afford to make the same mistakes again..we've already taken a risk in appointing an inexperienced coach but we cant afford to make the same old errors in the transfer market yet again..another season without european football or in the europe league means we will rot in mediocrity for years to come..

What the hell? I didn't rep you down. Nice insult by the way. Why would I? I agreed everything you said. I didn't even reply to your post when I gave my disagreements to the others. Don't come up with assumptions and I say I did it when you have no valid proof. I should in fact rep you down on this post for going off topic, insulting me and where I'm from and in addition taking the rep system seriously, but I won't because I'm better than that.

Re: what's missing for Juventus to get back on top?
What's missing?
From what I can see, a lot. But we need to be smart about this.
1. No. Aguero/Rossi/Pastore etc equals no Champions League. That may not be true, but we need to treat it as if that is the case. We can't take anything by chance. It's a smart investment: spend 45 on Aguero and in return you return to the CL.
2. I've always maintained: appointing Ferrara as coach is a step in the wrong direction, appointing Zaccheroni as coach is a step in the wrong direction, appointing Del Neri as coach is a step in the wrong direction. But appointing Conte is the right man. I've had enough of this tripe I've seen recently, and if Conte can't do it then nobody can- and Conte will bring is back because he is a winner- one of the greatest winners the game has seen.
3. Depth in places which our biggest threats lack. For me, that's fullback and wing. Oh what a suprise, they are both wide positions. And for the left wing, you need a bombarding player with a left foot. Pepe won't do.
4. New stadium, new life. We can't go into the new stadium looking like shit. Champions must be brought in to make the fans dare to imagine again.
