Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Really not confident with our defence if we go in with:
Agger, Papa, Ilori and Toure.
Especially if we sign a new keeper... would put a lot of pressure on him to perform.
I'm aware Wisdom and Kelly can also be back-ups, but Agger and Papa are fragile. Toure is not good enough to be a starter, and Ilori is still young...

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
I'm completely the opposite then ynwa. I think Agger-Papa will be exceptional if we could get the Greek. And Toure and Ilori will be fine back ups.
I also am hoping for Kelly to become a permanent starter at RB as the season progresses. Glenno isn't getting any younger and I don't want to even touch base on how average he is defensively.
By 2014-15 I would really hope to see Kelly as the undisputed #1 choice at RB.

Not doubting their quality mate. I only have doubts with their history of injuries.
Disagree with you saying GJ is average defensively. It's like saying Dani Alves is average defensively. It's a myth going around because they attack more than they defend. That doesn't mean they're average when it comes to defence.
GJ poor form post-March came from fatigue. He was our arguably our best defender before that.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Glenno is nothing but average defensively. Finnan defensively >> , Kelly defensively >>
I love him as a player because he's got all the qualities of a great footballer but defensively he's just as good as the average Joe and not more.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
1) This whole new quoting system is trash. Wrote a response to McAgger, only to lose everything after I pressed to quote iftikhar...
2) @ McAgger: In short, that's simply not true either. As good as Finnan was, GJ was the better player. He offers a lot more in attack and is only considered "average" because he's caught out of position at times. And the only reason that happened this season was because of fatigue. I trust GJ 1 on 1 just as much as Daniel Agger... they both hardly get beaten. Oh, and they're both "average" in the air. He was our best defender pre-March.
Kelly can only be considered more solid due to the fact that he doesn't offer anything in terms of attack. His crossing and shots are average, so they're much the opposite. It's similiar to Barcelona's dilemma with the rise of Montoya (Kelly) and Alves (GJ).
3) @ iftikhar: Agger was healthy for majority of last season, yes. But he's still prone to injuries. We can't rely on him.
Papa has also had 3 different operations on his knee. That's a massive risk in itself. Knee injuries are the worst. When you have three different operations on it, you should have a lot of doubt (not sure if that's the right word but going with it for now) in him not only to perform, but to stay fit.

I would like to pursue the idea of Glenno in RM & Kelly in RB. Summarizing from all your points above it seems like an idea that might click . . . Let's see what BR does cause i feel he believes in Kelly a lot & that would mean him getting chances.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
G. Johnson is average defensively. He's not easy to get past, but he is too often asleep in all other situations: His positioning is often in "napping" mode and when defending crosses and set-pieces he just does ball-watching as the guy he's supposed to mark wins the header.
But he's brilliant going forward and arguably he'd be at his best in a 3 CB formation playing wing-back.
As for Kelly, I see him more as a center-back already in near future, or should I say I see him to be a better CB than RB, but he might not get the chance to play CB for us for years to come which is a little sad. I wouldn't mind seeing him loaned out and do a Steven Caulker.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
The name Simon Mignolet is being thrown around pretty random today. But nothing from our reliable sources Echo, Guardian, Times & BBC.
Personally am confused if Pepe doesn't leave how does Mignolet fit in.
Plus Mkhitaryan rumors gathering further pace as Armenian radio commenting on a deal is being finalized at 18m pounds.
Bascombe also suggests that as was believed Mkhitaryan deal depends on Suarez is not true.

BBC on Mignolet, So Reina probably leaving next year. Clever move?
I prefer Begovic tbh.
Twitter also saying Liverpool wont exceed 12m for Papa because of the dodgy knee and Armenian radio stations reporting official negotiations with Henrikh,.

This article also suggests Mkhitaryan deal close.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is also tracking highly rated Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori and Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto, both 20 - while the club are reportedly close to signing 24-year-old Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar Donetsk

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Have to say I got taken by surprise to read the BBC reporting that we're close to signing Mignolet. Surely cannot be a back-up keeper? Big things going on, gotta say I'll be a little sad if Reina leaves.
The Guardian reporting that Mkhitaryan (could we just call him 'Ryan' xD ) is also firmly within our sights. I would have gone for an out-and-out winger, but after the season this guy had it's hard not to be excited if we sign him.
Shaping up to be a very exciting window, this.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Everyone already knows I'm not a fan of Reina, so I wouldn't be sad if we parted ways with him, though that shouldn't diminish his contributions to this team over his career.
When he's at his best Mignolet is a game changing goalkeeper who will make teams earn every goal. For me that is a huge upgrade for Liverpool if it happens.
Also, if Liverpool sign him, Newcastle can win the Tyne-Wear Derby, though not likely. Poor Mole

What about Real offering us Cash+Morata for Suarez!!! Won't be bad bargain i guess!! Plus Morata plays for the Spain U21 that's like almost 10 times better then the English U21 side!!

This new quote thing sucks, I can't click after the last quote to write below them!!
But why would we be looking to sign these young strikers? Wouldn't we be getting too many forwards into our squad? You can't add goals into your team just by signing strikers and I don't care how strongly Sam Allardyce might disagree!

8 million euros for Luis Alberto.. what the heck is this? Never heard of this guy before we were linked, surely the price tag sounds a bit too steep?

Depends on how highly you rate Spanish Segunda.
If a 20 year old player in Championship had 11 goals and 17 assists in a season, he'd be going for a similar price (if not more).
Plus, we'd probably sell Shelvey to some team for 4-5 million pounds, so the difference between that, and Alberto will be pretty little and it funds itself.

Players transferring from within the same national leagues cost more anyways, because they are familiar with the style of play of the region.Harry Redknapp wrote:ExtremistEnigma wrote:8 million euros for Luis Alberto.. what the heck is this? Shelvey getting sold? I don't think he will be sold because BR rates him a lot. I would be disappointed if he is sold.

Toure & Aspas deals partially confirmed. Mignolet, Alberto, Ilori & Mkhitaryan gaining serious momentum. All goes to prove a severe attention & hard work being put up by the Transfer & Scouting committee. Very exciting Summer this. Can't really wait for preseason & see all our new recruits in action.
Kudos to the transfer committee & BR.
