Use youtube to find new music ----> spotify artists you like.

It might not be popular and garnering millions of view, but there is tons and tons of good music out there, you just have to look in the right places.

Think other genres are doing well still. But Rap has gone to ashes for sure.

There are tons of channels on youtube that put out good music on a regular basis, you just have to find them.

From there it's easy.

Rap is certainly a shadow of itself, but I refuse to buy into it being dead (that is what they want us to believe). Mainstream is out there to kill a legend and the real artists will never let that happen. We live in time where you can manage and promote yourself - it is just as CBarca said, you need to look a little harder (in other words, do not use iTunes - they will not offer as much variety.)

Youtube, Spotify, Grooveshark (I know my subscriber buddy was in talks with them), Pandora, Lastfm, Facebook - music is out there, you just need to put in that work.

The mainstream market is saturated by crap this is true. ( a bit like how Call of Duty has saturated the gaming market)

But if you look hard enough you can still find good music no matter the genre ( even Rap)

I personally use Last FM and search for Genre's i like and go through the pages of artists that are less known and then look for artists similar to those.

The problem is that artists that broke through 10-20 years ago and made it mainstream and nowadays they struggle to break through because the charts are over saturated by rubbish.

Funny thing i tend to find when you find good unknown artists the rest tend to fall down like dominoes and you find loads lol

You may not like this type of music but hey they are only examples and there's many more out there, my advice is just to ignore the chart/mainstream stuff.

Been listening to some new bands like Escape the Fate, We Came as Romans (Detroit represent!), Thousand Foot Krutch, the Heavy, and Cake....they are not super mainstream, but have a lot of buzz around them.

So I guess it depends on what genre's you're referring to.

Hip has actually had one of it's better years in recent times. Check out Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Lupe Fiasco if you like hip hop.

Even if there is still some good new music out there, the amount of it is definitely less than it used to be IMO.

Ehh, those are such vague statements in my opinion (from anyone claiming music quality has decreased) - it comes off as a negative and I wonder why so many people focus on the negative music.

For starters, turn off the radio, you are not doing yourself any favors. I understand there is so much history if you decide to take a look back - I personally love the 80's, but I tend to find the beauty in every genre/era. The beauty of music to me is expres​sion(whether that be the lyrics you sing, or the instruments you play) - music is all about emotion. Youtube allows for any artist to display his work for the world to see and while I understand it is not easy to find something you are not looking for, I am certain some of you have spent countless hours searching for some pornography (lord knows I have ).

Anyway, while I will not disagree with the notion that is not as much good music, I will still argue that there is enough quality music to get us by - just take a look at some of the music threads on the forum: CBarca, Thimmy, Adnyana, dmize and countless others continue to post quality tracks on a daily basis.

I disagree Eman. I don't think there is less good music than there used to be at all, I just think that while 10-20 years ago this good music would hit the mainstream...it's not anymore. As said, mainstream music has turned to absolute shite.

But if you're judging music on a whole by mainstream, you're doing it wrong. I'm constantly amazed at the amount of good songs and artists I hear that I've never heard of before...they're out there, they're just not mainstream and you have to look a bit harder.

And radio is fking awful except if you guys have TuneIn Radio for an ipod, check out 89.3 The Current. It's an NPR station from Minnesota and that station puts out amazing music constantly. They play tons of new, good gems nobody knows about.

Little Talks, We Are Young, and Ho Hey are all songs I heard on there that would later hit the mainstream MONTHS later.

Well judging from what I've seen in the Music Room thread, I don't think I quite share some of your guys' taste in music all the time (bar Radiohead for CBarca), so that could also be a factor

Maybe the quality of the music that is widely publicly received has decreased...I don't really know. But of music is so immeasurable and diverse it's difficult to really make that judgement.

ETF were amazing when Ronnie was their singer, they were simply one of the best bands and I enjoyed listening to them with years when they fired Ronnie Radke for his drug addiction beside him being one of the founders I stopped listening they did idiotic move instead of helping and he ended up in jail. The new singer is not even close to Ronnie.

Rise Against is an amazing band, just youtube them. I guarantee any song by them is phenomenal

Meh people exaggerate when they say the quality of music has decreased.. Music just keeps evolving and if its not what you're used to then you may consider it shit

I can barely listen to '90s hip hop now, unless its someone great like Jay-Z..

Pusha T, Cyhi The Prynce, ASAP Rocky, Fabolous.. Just some of the names I listen to these days and they're all great IMO
