First game for andreazzoli

More like a baptism in fire.....this Samp team is quite good under Rossi. Especially that kid Icardi.

It will be interesting to see how the return of the 4-2-3-1 registers with a squad built for a 4-3-3. We'd also have to look out for who may start in goal. It's really up in the air at this point.

Excited for the match. Interesting to see what andreazzoli does and who he plays. But will be a very tough fixture.

The Corriere dello Sport is today suggesting that new Roma boss Aurelio Andreazzoli will use Miralem Pjanic as a Trequartista in a 4-3-1-2 system.

So if that will be our new formation, then maybe it will be something like this?:




Marquinho and Perrotta would be easily interchangeable in the roles in front of DDR. This also accommodates both Destro and Lopez in the forward positions while Lamela can also play up top as well.

Will definitely be watching this. Would be lovely to see Poli and Icardi vs the great Romans. I have a soft spot for both teams . Should be a cracker.

well Totti will drop down and that turns it to 4-3-2-1 , zeman tried that as well
also marquinho or Vailis could be used as LB and Piris in right because Dodo does not have any defensive qualities

If Totti picks up a yellow, I will flip over everything in sight (our following match is against Juventus).

Osvaldo and Castan both picked up knocks in training today, with the Argentine getting the worst of them. We'll have to wait to see how he's doing tomorrow to know whether he'll play or not.

It's been hard to decipher what our starting 11 will be judging by this week's training sessions. It seems as if Piris may be left aside (though he did just come back today from International duty), possibly being bumped by Taddei. Vocegiallorossa suggests these two lineups:

(4-2-3-1): Stekelenburg, Taddei, Marquinhos, Castán, Torosidis; De Rossi, Pjanić; Lamela, Florenzi, Osvaldo; Totti.

(4-3-2-1): Stekelenburg, Taddei, Marquinhos, Castán, Torosidis; Pjanić, De Rossi, Florenzi; Lamela, Totti; Osvaldo.

Sabella will be personally scouting this game and Andreazoli is benching him?

Good half overall. We attacked a lot more than I thought we would in this formation and defended much better. Stek actually looked pretty secure as a result. We kept Icardi under wraps rather well too.

we played well, but didnt have luck. im not sure of that 3 man defense either. 4-2-3-1 should workd better.
Also, it seems that Osvaldo took that penalty because he just did. The coach said that in hes books Totti takes penalties. If so, Osvaldo should be dropped. Selfish and arrogant.
Lamela looked very good. Should try him in center too, scored one and almost another while being there. More than osvaldo did for the whole game.

Thought the 3-5-2 was an awful tactical decision. You can't pull off this system without good wing backs. Instead, Roma played Lamela and Marcos in these roles. Lamela was great in the offense (probably the best player of the pitch tonight) but he didn't seem to understand his defensive duties, although in fairness he has never had to track back as much as that position requires. Estigarribia therefore had a lot of space to explode throughout the match. Marcos was more balanced but nevertheless not his best position.

I would suggest he drops this system in favor of a 4-2-3-1, which in my opinion favors Roma much more.

I remember he gave the ball way once, others did so too. I think he played well, was always open and playable.

I think we ultimately played a 3-4-3 going forward and something resembling a 3-5-2 defensively. It was a bold decision by Andreazzoli that worked very well in the first half as well as in the first few minutes of the 2nd.

I think our collapse was completely mental and had nothing to do with any tactical decisions. The disallowed penalty, though correct, was the beginning, but Osvaldo's penalty miss was what really dropped our heads. There will no doubt be questions around why he took it and not Totti, but for me it doesn't really matter and it doesn't change the fact that it got missed and we suffered because of it. Samp merely took advantage of our malaise and executed an old-fashioned smash and grab. We tried to fight back, but there was no way a Delio Rossi-coached side lets go of a game like that. They knew they had us by the balls and they didn't let go. Fair play to them for that.

This wasn't as bad as it seemed honestly. Just shows that even with a new system and new coach that this side is still mentally weak. We lack grinta.....that stuff wins championships and Juve and Napoli have it.
