EVERYbody here knows Messi.
But everybody also knew Dinho.
And R9.

I can't really detect a difference, except that Messi is more universally accepted as "the best", while 'Dinho never was broadly accepted as the best active player, he was just seen to have the most flair.
For Germans (and Brits, I'd think) that's an important distinction.

I don't speak to many people about football in Aus, they either know enough about football, know Beckham or think Football is AFL.

I actually don't think many people over here would know either. Some would know ADP or some of the 06 WC winners before Messi or Dinho.
