Maarten Stekelenburg has blasted Roma and Zdenek Zeman for benching him without explanation, fuelling reports of a January move to Fulham.

The goalkeeper had started the season as first choice, but after an injury he failed to recover his place from Mauro Goicoechea.

“The last game I played before the Coppa Italia semi-final was on December 11 against Atalanta. That’s six weeks, which is a lot to deal with,” Stekelenburg told Dutch site Sport Promotion.

“I had an injury, but then Goicoechea took my place. Why did Zeman lose faith in me? I don’t know, we never spoke about it and there is nothing I can do to change this situation.

“I thought it totally pointless buying Goicoechea, considering we already had Bogdan Lobont in the squad. What was the need for a third goalkeeper?

Can't say I blame him for his anger. His spot with the Dutch national side depends on the minutes we give him.

Goico has been patchy at best though. He's still got a shot to win his spot back imo.

he can be angry as much as he wants but taking that to the media (he must have noticed by now that media and almost everything is against Roma,Ie referees mistakes, making Roma play on 1 feb (of day) , delaying the second leg for 3 month and much more) and why would he judging the transfers ,( i dont think he is responsible for transfers ) .Last but not the least he got injured and Roma had to use another GK what does he expect ? the team to play without a GK? and his replacement did a good job at least in managers view

Agreed Epoto. I understand his frustration, but that interview is not going to help anything. He supposedly cleared things up with Goicoechea today, nonetheless a fine is on the way for him for holding an interview without the club's permission.

As for the game, Marquinhos is most likely out, meaning Burdisso is set to start alongside Castan. Piris left training early today, meaning that Torosidis may be in line for his first appearance. During today's training, Cangelosi, Zeman's number 2, took the greek defender aside to explain him some movements, evidently using Tachtsidis as his translator. In midfield, with De Rossi out and Perrotta in doubt, I would be surprised to see anything aside from Bradley, Tachtsidis and Florenzi. Up front, Destro is going to be missing for a while, meaning that Osvaldo is a lock in the middle. Pjanic is most likely going to bump Lamela to the bench, and rightly so, with Totti occupying the left flank. Look out for Dodo' coming in for Totti at some point during the match.

Frustrating match honestly. Burdisso proving yet again he just doesn't understand how to defend in this system and Goico was very poor, with 2 of those goals directly his fault.

Diamanti was goat though. Deserved a hat trick with the efforts he put on goal.

the worst part is the rumors about this game being zeman's last game and people wanting his head , the only problem i see with him is he doesn't seem to have any control over his players and solve any problem , as the result we get goi in Goal and stek that is clearly the better player on side

Our only threats were the three attacking players who created the chances. Rest was awful.

Were was Marquinhos? Only an idiot would leave him on the bench. Goalkeeping situation is worring. Gio has been poor lately and Stek cant speak Italian. So.. Lobont?
