Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
He doesn't have the technical ability or brain to play for Arsenal.
Absolute monster of a player but compared to say Drogba he's a bit of a headless chicken.
With that said though; his pace, strength and ability to get into goalscoring positions means he's still going to be a handful every single week.

Err no, Never seen Wenger ever play a striker similar to Lukaku.Bénin wrote:HE's 21 ehreas Giroud is 27. Nothing to do with age of course but Lukaku is exactly the type of player Arsene likes. Drogba was almost in his prime when he came in England. It's not fair to Lukaku to compare him with DD as he's 21 only. Where was Drogba at that age ?
the pressure on those so called '' talent '' is just insane. How many 21'years old strikers are starters for a big team ?

Think that's harsh. You're comparing a prime Drogba to a 21 year old talent.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:

I mean, Drogba was a bit of a headless chicken in his first season with Chelsea too. That's why they went out and paid whatever they did on Shevchenko the following season. Drogba didn't exactly light up the league in his debut season.

Lukaku is what? 20-21 odd?
He's just started his career anyway and has so many years to learn and get better. If he goes to Dortmund or Arsenal, in a few years he can be he next Drogba.
I never rated Giroud for his hold up play and link-up ability but the fact is he has shown big improvement

Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
Despite being out for like 3 months Drogba still reached double digits in the League in his first season with chelsea....and this was as third string behind Gudjohnsen and Lampard who would ridiculously stand around in the forward's area like he was a forward.Red Alert wrote:Think that's harsh. Drogba was always technically brilliant...he was just a diving prick at first.
Only comparisons between Drogba and Lukaku are because they both play for chelsea, big, and black.
Lukaku, while a great striker, will never be the technical guy Drogba was. On the other hand he also will never throw himself around and use the gamesmanship that Drogba did. You can tell they came up in totally different set ups. Drogba learned his skills in France against youths who loved tricks and skill. Lukaku was raised in a professional environment that seems to focus more on his Physical side. Very English-like in development.

Think people are underrating his technical ability. Not saying he's great, but he's got plenty enough to deal in the PL. This kid is already dominating and inciting fear in defenders. From a neutral standpoint, I'm excited to see his development.

Let me explain this to you...Gil wrote:I don't understand why people are desperate to use him as a stick to beat us with. He's still our player lol.
This isn't a Pogba or Ravel Morrison type situation.
Even if we decide to *bleep* him off in odd fashion we'll still recoup about £40m in transfer fee.
Can't wait for his return so we can finally rid ourselves of that mental midget Torres. It's been 3 years too long with him.
None of Chelsea's three established strikers have scored away from the bridge this season, and they have a total of 4 goals between them. Romelu Lukaku has 8 on his own.
Chelsea need a prolific, focal-point of a striker. United need a CM to pair, and eventually replace, Carrick. It is precisely the same situation as Pogba and Morrison leaving United. The only difference is that Chelsea may not have permanently shot themselves in the foot with this one. They may yet have the ability to bring him back into the fold. However, the bigger issue is that Chelsea have a striker on their books who could fix their most glaring need. However, he's doing it for one of their competitors at the moment. I'd say that's a pretty good reason to use this situation as a stick to beat Chelsea with.

Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
Who cares about where the goals come from? Suarez and Sturridge have scored a shitload this season yet you're still behind us in the table and probably won't finish in the Top 4 anyway. Ba, Torres, Eto'o aren't WC but they all still contribute with their fair share of goals.
2nd in the League, in the Carling Cup QF's, qualified for the knockout stages of the CL while Lukaku continues to take points away from our rivals and get consistent game-time. Only rival fans and journos are seemingly upset about this for some reason. Most Chelsea fans are already over it and are enjoying his progression as a player.

Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
I think the fact that Torres has flopped so hard is distracting people from the fact that we don't actually struggle to score goals. Of course there will be games were we don't score; or where our strikers being poor is going to hinder our play and a better striker would obviously make us a better team; but our current system isn't reliant on a striker playing well.
Something that's hurting the team far more than a lack of strikers goals is our midfields complete inability to control a match, over the last couple of seasons we've lost so many points from winnings positions because Lampard & Ramires can't control the tempo of a game to save themselves, yet that's something that's gone completely under the radar and never gets any attention;- mainly because we're not forcing a 50m flop in there.
Having said all that I honestly can't wait for Lukaku to come back to Stamford Bridge next season but some of you need to calm down and realize this isn't a world class striker just yet, he's still raw and needs to iron lots of shit out, his work rate being the main thing. If Jose wouldn't let Mata into the team because he didn't defend well enough then there's no way Lukaku would get in lol, he's stupidly lazy.

Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
Lukaku might be lazy, but hes nowhere near as lazy as Juan "Stroll around the park" Mata.
No shock Chelsea started hemorrhaging goals when Mata came back in the starting 11. He left Ivanovic wide open all night against sunderland.

Only two goals behind Vardy now Seems like this is his break-out season
Good thing Chelsea let him go, they might've had a clinical goalscorer otherwise

Based on his record, the quality of his first touch is irrelevant.

RvN is a legend and was World Class in his prime. Lukaku would do well to reach a quarter of his quality.

Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
Dude has notched 120 goals by 23 and people calling him average, trash, lucky to have a quarter of the career of RVN.
Do those statistics mean nothing to you? I mean, I'll be honest I'm not even a big fan, but he's quite a decent striker in the EPL and he does get you goals. He'll never be worth the money that is talked about regarding him moving anywhere and he does have an awful first touch, but he gets goals. He's a decent striker and he's still young yet.

Re: How highly do you rate Romelu Lukaku?
So it's been a few seasons since his successful WBA loan and, since then, he's polished up as a striker quite nicely. He's more aware, more intelligent and his finishing has improved dramatically. He's already notched up 68 career goals at Everton. Reckon they'll struggle to keep him after this campaign
