Re: Benteke
I think there will be a ridiculous EPL inflated price for Benteke so it'd be to late for Spurs to pick him up without more seasoning. I'm still holding out hope for the Osvaldo deal to go through. I see him getting picked up by one of the richer clubs and then them loaning him out, probably right back to Villa.

That rumors sounds like you're preparing for life without Ben Arfa... or someone's finally realized that Ben Arfa really only has ~20 games a season in him.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:We apparently want Weimann.... under Pardew though he would look very very average.
Obviously this is considering we actually stay up
As for Benteke, idk about 20 mil, but I can easily see someone splashing ~15 on him. He's young, powerful, capable of fitting into multiple approaches, and proven in the Premier League. My personal tip would be Spurs. I think he's a younger (and currently more effective) version of Adebayor without all of the BS that Ade brings to the table. He would slot in perfectly for them.

I'm not sold on Osvaldo, to be honest. But I don't watch Roma as much as you, so I'll refrain judgement.
Benteke would be a good buy and an upgrade to Adebayor, but if Tottenham finish in the top 4, Tottenham will NEED a striker that has the class of a CL team. Benteke has shown class, but I don't want to see Tottenham spending more than about 12 million for him. One season isn't enough, especially to lead a team like Tottenham who would have Defoe and Ade as backups (AKA hardly even strikers).
I'd rather see Tottenham spend top money for someone who is...worth top money. Benteke hasn't shown that YET. Although he's been great this season no doubt.

Re: Benteke
There's no reason why Aston Villa should sell him to be honest.
He's already proved that he can keep them in the league. He's essentially done that on his own alongside Weinnman...
The league gives every team 50-60m for playing in the league from TV rights. Aston Villa should get that money and invest it into the team and build the side around Benteke. They'll get the money back staying in the league and improve their league position.
Benteke has the potential to be very good. It's about time you lot are jumping on the bandwagon. He's only going to get better next season and into the future. Unless there's a transfer request (which I don't think he'll do unless a CL team comes in) thrown in from the big fellow, Aston Villa should keep him at costs.
Let's not forget Aston Villa (well in their financial position) spent big money to get him.

Or that we need more forwards.... Our forward selection is some of the worst in the entire league should we stay up along with getting rid of Pardew it has to be priority no 1.

ffs didn't even see that when I bumped I think that was right after Villa raped us 3-1 at Anfield. Though, tbh I did rate him in 2012-13. My worry is that he just doesn't fit how we play.

Re: Benteke
I think 1 goals every 2 games is a realistic target for him.
As for his fit with Liverpool. I am sure some will disagree with me, but Liverpool dont play well enough or get the results to warrant playing in a way which doesnt suit 35m strikers.
Give him the type of service you know he wants or this becomes a pointless buy

He definitely has massive pressure on him with that price tag.

Re: Benteke
Yeah the price tag puts pressure on him to deliver right away.
Dani, when I say style of play I mean in terms of being involved in general play and attacking build ups how Sturridge is and Suarez was. He doesn't necessarily have to do it in the same manner Suarez and Sturridge did by dribbling, creating through passing and vision etc, but getting involved, playing 1-2s, running in behind, holding the ball up. Just getting on the end of corners and winning some hoofball headers really won't be enough I'm afraid.
I'm also afraid having Benteke will give players like Skrtel and Lovren the license to just hoof ball it up to him too often.
But I agree if he keeps his 1 in 2 record, fans would take a liking to him.

Re: Benteke
I think he will score goals but it won't translate to as much points as the total says if that makes sense.

Re: Benteke
He'll score a fair amount of goals for you, but all depends if Rodgers utilizes him to his strengths, to get the best out of him. That means hoof balls, crosses galore, something that this LFC team don't do a lot of.
He also goes through droughts, spells where he doesn't contribute at all and the match passes him by.
My point is, play him to his strengths and he'll be a nuisance for defences, if not, he'll be a 32.5m passenger.

Re: Benteke
I think he'll have plenty of chances to score. All of our strikers did last season...there just never seemed to be any finish.
If Benteke can retain his composure and finishes well he will do just fine.
The price is irrelevant as it has been for some time now with PL clubs literally swimming in money. He isn't going to be counted on to be the best player, leader or focal point of the team so with a little more attention on guys like Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Markovic, Ibe, Henderson, Milner, etc. by comparison to his AV teammates he may end up with even more space and time to operate. Hopefully he makes use of it.

The difference opinion more changed because he was crap at Villa this past season before Sherwood took over more than anything else.
Most still rate him though.

Re: Benteke
It's such a shame that the thinking "big lads can't play for big teams" has infested football these days.
Benteke was beasting it for Aston Villa at first. At Liverpool he did really quite all right under Rodgers's final stretches, scoring for a team that was struggling to create. Then he, unfairly, got no look-in what-so-ever under Klopp, because for whatever reason being "unsuited". Now he's playing for poorly-perfoming Crystal Palace and beasting it again, his 7 Premier League goals are more than any player in the high-flying Liverpool team. It hurts me to see such size-racism, shall I call it "sicism". Would rather have Benteke at Liverpool than Sturridge to be perfectly honest.

Re: Benteke
Why would you want him in your team when he is clearly not suited to your manager's playstyle? Both the team and Benteke would suffer if he stayed at Pool and played.

That is the popular argument, but it's an argument I don't agree with. Benteke can play with his feet and can move about. I do think we would be right about where we are in the table had it been Benteke instead of Firmino playing up top for us.
