I find it extremely hard to disagree with this. The only real contentious point for me is Carvajal over Pisczek but he was injured.

Slight disagreement about the exclusion of Adler but that's because of the way WhoScored judges goalkeepers (Saves are heavily weighted so midtable GK's are on top)

The problem with these is that attacking midfielders always get more favourable ratings. But if you field a midfield full of attacking players you are going to fail.

I think Messi should be dropped to the midfield replacing Hernanes and Falcao takes his spot. I also think CR should be there instead of either Muller or Ribery.

Anyways that team does not look too bad with the way things are panning out so far, the inclusion of Cathorla is still abit iffy for me, personally i'd have picked Isco over him but its a great line up nonetheless

I have watched the last 5 Atletico games and to say Falcao has been underwhelming would be an understatement.

you are perfectly right, he has been well below the standards we used to see him play at the start of the season, but you can't fault him sometimes because in some games Atleti didn't even create chances to score only to get a shot at the end which would go in.

Muller and Ribery have been outstanding, much more impressive than CR has been anyway.

Anyway this is a team based on stats so it's hardly worth paying attention to.

I find it strange that WhoScored went for 4-4-2 when they've admitted that 4-2-3-1 is the most used formation.

Looking at their performance ratings the "real" WhoScored team of the season is:

Carvajal - Ranocchia -- Chielini ---- Baines

----------Capue---------Pirlo

Müller --------- Hernanes---------- Ribéry

----------------Messi

(Cazorla is labelled as a CM, Vidal too so if we ignore all the CM's the next official DM in line would be Capue but Vidal, & Fellaini are rated higher and should have DM labels)

But a better tactical fit imo is the Juve duo of Vidal and Pirlo with Ibra as CF and Messi CAM. The 7 subs (based on WhoScored ratings and versatility) would be Hernanes, Kießling (beating out Cavani by 0.02 lol), Camacho, Ronaldo, Samuel, Lahm and Oczipka.

The difference between being the most advanced CM in a 3 man midfield and a being one of the 2 CMs in a 4-4-2 and the other being Santi Cazorla is quite drastic lol.

Well what happens is that to fill in the CM positions they include all CAM/CM/DM's. The top 3 midfielders who can play DM/mislabelled as CM's so far according to WhoScored are Pirlo, Vidal and Fellaini. If we go with the 4-4-2 and put one DM and one CM/CAM then we would end up with Hernanes and Pirlo as the 4-4-2 CMs which is pretty legit.

Doesnt matter what stats he has, stll doesnt appear right. I mean the best 11 should at least have some hope of being able to play a functional game.

I dont know who should be there, but to be honest I think it makes more sense playing 4231 anyway seeing as so many teams do play the formation.

Witha rating of 7.92 Erik Lamela just loses out to Muller and beats Ronaldo in his position

Good thing this forum has a relatively low amount of premfaces - Fellaini, Cazorla and Baines being the only representatives in a top 4 for each position would cause some consternation.
