Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle looks back over 10 years at the helm and why the rapport with Juventus “deteriorated badly.”

The Tuscan club was bankrupt and had to begin again from Serie C2 when the Della Valle brothers stepped on to the scene in 2002.

“It was an important challenge taking on Fiorentina, because we really did start from scratch,” ADV told Al Jazeera.

“After a great era and a season full of errors, we had to make a new revolution in Florence. It may take time, but this is the rebirth of the new project.”

The President was also asked about the intense rivalry with Juventus, which exploded this summer in the row over Dimitar Berbatov.

“The rivalry with Juventus has always been present in the city for reasons that everyone knows. In recent years we had managed to strike up a good rapport and did business together.

“Unfortunately from this season, through no fault of our own, the rapport has deteriorated badly.

“I have a regret from this campaign, which is that Fiorentina are the only side to have made life really difficult for Juventus, so it’s a shame we couldn’t mark that with a victory. Our fans still emerged from the stadium that night very proud of our team.”
