Re: England 4th -FIFA rankings
Got this little extract from Sky Sports:
I'm sure these rankings will change again after the Copa America.
England's rise is due to the fact that the matches of the World Cup in South Africa last year now count 50% less towards the overall ranking.
Teams that had a strong World Cup but have not had such good results since, such as Uruguay, have experienced a big drop in ranking. Those that did not do so well but have had decent results since then - such as England, Italy and France - have seen a boost in ranking.
I'm sure these rankings will change again after the Copa America.

Hell yes, Netherlands second.
Btw, how in earth did England even manage to become 6th initially? Is there much weight on qualifier results or something, but even then, they failed at that in the recent past!
Confusion.

Re: England 4th -FIFA rankings
Points are calculated using this forumla:
P = M x I x T x C
Whereby:
P = Points
M = Matchday points (i.e. 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss)
I = Importance of match (friendly = 1.0, confederation* qualifier = 2.5, confederation tournament = 3.0, World Cup = 4.0) * In this instance confederation refers to the Euros, Copa America, Gold Cup etc.
T = Strength of opposing team (determined using the forumla: 200 - rank* of opposing team) * the most recent ranking
C = Strength of confederation (UEFA/CONMEBAL = 1.0, CONCACAF = 0.88, CAF = 0.86, AFC/OFC = 0.85)
An average number of points is then taken from a nation's results over the last 12 months.
A nation has to play at least 5 games to get the full average. You get 20% less for every game you did not play (i.e. 4 games = 80%, 3 games = 60% etc).
The match average for games older than 12 months old depreciate. After a year after the World Cup, the average will depreciate by 50%. Two years after the world will see the average fall by 30%, and three years after by 20%. Averages older than four years (aka one World Cup cycle) will be nulled.
At this point the average amount of points gained from the 2010 World Cup will have been depreciated by 50%, hence why points gained from recent qualifiers and friendlies are actually worth more, thus the slight discrepencies, if you want to call them that, in the rankings.

Evidently you did not see the post about how these ranking are actually calculated.

They can make for interesting reading, but no, I don't put a lot of faith in them.

Re: England 4th -FIFA rankings
The two historically most successful World Cup teams are 5th and 6th. Interesting how those two teams seem to march lock step in good and bad times.

Re: England 4th -FIFA rankings
*lol this Ranking is BS, because there is no Qualification for the Copa America, so the european Teams have the opportunity to get more points playing euro qualifying games vs the like of san marino, Azerbaijan and luxembourg, this ranking is a joke !!!
Re: England 4th -FIFA rankings
The teams with the flawless qualifying campains are way up, it's obvious. They're usually most accurate right after major tournaments.

Re: England 4th -FIFA rankings
lmao is this a joke? they get knocked out at the round of 16, we get knocked at the quarter-finals and they're ahead?
not to mention we won the confeds cup, etc, etc?
uruguay are better than england, italy.. italy didnt even get past the group stage at the last wc..
argentina is better too..
well anyway, i guess they have their own stupid point counting system... it so does NOT represent things as they truly are.
