Italy vs. England for sure was like watching Juve at times last season...dominating the play but without a striker who can put the ball in the frakking net.

Hahaha, Granted not a vintage one from him tonight, but if I keep plugging him enough maybe he will get the credit he deserves...that's how these forums work no?

Re: Club equivalents at the Euros
WTF? Marchisio was superb on the defensive end and created TWO of Italia's best chances with his passes.
He wasn't at his best but he had a solid and commendable performance.

He was Ok but I felt he went missing for long spells. It might have been by design though so it could be just me.

As a whole Marchisio doesn't function best in a 4-3-1-2. Remember him in the 3-5-2 against Espana? Was superb there.
Marchisio also quite obviously had a role to protect the flanks and reduce his attacking duties since Italia were vulnerable on the flanks.
It was that subtle Khedira-like performance which is why I am surprised you didn't notice more.
Probably the unsung hero for Italia today.

This is fair to say, Marchisio doesn't often have Pirlo or De Rossi like influence on the game but he always seems to pop up and make something happen throughout the game, sometimes when you don't even expect it.
He often does go unnoticed but I really like what he does off the ball.

Re: Club equivalents at the Euros
Normally with 7-8 Bayern players in Germany, it should be more fitting to say Germany = Bayern, albeit Germany *is* playing more direct.

Re: Club equivalents at the Euros
Germany plays nothing like Bayern. The reason is Özil. He is the system for both Real and Germany which requires a 4-2-3-1 setup.rwo power wrote:Normally with 7-8 Bayern players in Germany, it should be more fitting to say Germany = Bayern, albeit Germany *is* playing more direct.

Made me smile. Speaking of horses, the other day I was watching "Most Shocking", which is kind of like "Cops" from the US and A, and they suddenly brought up a clip from France, where a horse had escaped and ran around the city. So, the American commentator said something like this; - But this stallion is not like an average french, and wont surrender!

Re: Club equivalents at the Euros
The team that won the Champions league this year has only 3 representatives in the remaining four teams of the Euros.
Fernando Torres,Juan Mata,Raul Meireles and the former two have barely played this tournament.

Exactly. Germany play like a blend of Real and Dortmund, but mostly really like Real, except less wing-heave, due to not having Ronaldo, or rather: having Schweinsteiger/Khedira make more runs through the center.
But the closest thing to Real in NTs is Germany, hands down. Germany play almost nothing like Bayern, Bayern are waaaaaay more slow, and less direct. We'd only play like Bayern if Özil got injured and we decided to replace him with Kroos instead of Götze.
