Alba won't go to Olympics... I hope he doesnt Sad The guy has had constant minutes on the pitch at Euro's. I feel he needs a break before preseason... Spain have quality at LB imo, I prefer if they take someone else for Barca sakes Razz

 The speed merchants of Barca

So, thoughts on the Spanish Olympic team? Do they have a chance to upset Brazil without Thiago? How will they line up?

Brazil have a disgusting team. If they don't win it, it would be a disgrace. Spain will def. miss Thiago but they should end top 4 at least with all of the talent in their ranks.

Thiago is a big miss though they should make semi finals at least. But that Brazil Olympic side is simply GOAT . If they don't win well they should give up on football... :coffee: Mind you, teams may be better on paper but its whether they can produce the odds on the football pitch and really they should

Thiago is a big miss, because I think with him, Spain would be surprisingly effective against Brazil. Remember that this team is almost identical to the one that played the U21 Euros last year and this Brazil team is just a bunch of stars thrown together.

Where Spain need to dominate games is in the midfield and then they can control the game and starve a team like Brazil of the ball. Javi, Herrera and Thiago worked a very good midfield in Switzerland and I'm sure they'd dominate Brazils midfield. My guess is Mata will now drop into midfield and Isco will probably start on the wing. Still a very good midfield. They are the only team that could potentially stop Brazil.

Montoya and Alba did well on the flanks. Montoya didn't do anything bad though not anything good either. Its been a sound Olympics for him. tbh, Im so glad Spain are out. More rest time for Alba... Tello never gets enough time onto the pitch... Always comes on the 82nd minute and never can make himself a big impact because of the lack of minutes. Mata didn't crap and Isco was terrible. The passing wasn't accurate and we didn't deserve to go through this group stage. We had chances and we missed them. Hondorus had few and they at least took one of them...

Very disappointing to see the lack of composure from Alba however...Honduras were guilty of thug tactics to be sure but La Roja really unraveled

tbh, it was really pathetic to see those honduras players feight injury when Spain didn't even play so tough. And how angry did Muniain get Laughing he was the maddest by far, especially on that time when one of honduras forwards was making his best drogba impression and once honduras started a counter-attack he just stood up and started running Laughing

Every single attack for opposing teams has come down Montoya's flank so far and apart from one good cross he seems to completely lack attacking awareness.

I wasn't impressed by any of the Spaniards in London.

Alba, even though he offers different things compared to Abidal, I consider him a downgrade to the Frenchman. Nowhere near Abi when it comes to defending and he lacks composure on the ball but in his defence he is almost 10 years younger than Abidal so he can improve.

Regarding Tello, Barça faithful may be optimistic cause he is young but he reminds me of the case of Theo Walcott. A player with unbelievable bursts of speed but lacking a footballing brain. Not to mention his finishing requires a lot of work, so does his weaker (left) foot.

And I don't need to talk about Montoya. I think he has potential but it is fair to say he had a terrible tournament.

Agree. No one really had a good tournament. I couldn't be bothered to see the game... Apparently Martinez and Romeu were playing in the middle... Was Spain playing 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with Martinez as a creative midfielder?
