Re: Arbeloa is under-rated
Arbeloa has been a defensive frailty all season long bar the last month. In big games, he steps up which us admirable but he was at fault for many goals conceded this season.
Knee jerk is knee jerk. We'll keep him but someone else for rotation is needed.

Re: Arbeloa is under-rated
prior to the bayern and barca games arbeloa was in probably the worst slump of his life- his positioning and overall play was just miserable.
but to answer your question i dont think hes underrated i think hes rated just fine. he is a defensive minded RB who is typically good at positioning and defending but his biggest weak point is how slow he is.
his lack of speed is really what got him into trouble this season as he would get caught wayyyyy to far up the pitch and wouldnt be able to recover. at least when marcelo does this he has the quickness to recover most times.
also i am very thankful that he stepped up to the big stages against barca and bayern because i was really worried about him in particular.

"Defensive minded RB"
See that's where Madrid fans get it all wrong. I have to agree with some posters that Madrid, and Mourinho's teams in general rely on attacking fullbacks over midfield dominance to create opportunities and space.
I'd take Arbeloa over Rafinha any day, if anyone is familiar with both.

Re: Arbeloa is under-rated
He is very reliable as a full back. Though he was crap for 6 months this season, I was amazed by his performances last hell week.
What a time to step up. Shame we came up against Germans on a penalty shootout lol.

"Does nothing upfront"
lol. That's not his job. His job is to defend and he does it with ease. Mourinho has always had either a solid LB (or RB) with the alternative being attacking minded.
The reason to replace him is because of his age... in his 30's now, isn't he?

In laymans terms, he made him so invisible you couldn't even see his scar.
1st or 2nd leg..
The crowd made Ribery look invisible in the first leg against Marseille
Probably the lamest excuse I've heard like....ever.
So by this logic, every winger/player is invisible because of the away crowd.
Do you even realize more than half of Marsielle's stadium is under repair which leaves a small portion of fans to cheer against them?
Do you even realize how hilarious this statement was?
Azpi made him disappear and thats about it.

Who claimed that it was? The reason it's not his job is because he's not capable of attacking as well as certain other backs.ynwa wrote:"Does nothing upfront"

Re: Arbeloa is under-rated
he is under rated by Madrid fans
me personally, I like him, an intelligent player, but 90% of Real Madrid fans expect every player on the field, including and especially, defenders, to be able to make defence splitting passes, not make a single mistake, make sure the player being marked never gets the ball, and be able attack like Ronaldo/Messi
maybe its just me, but this guy had 3 bad weeks all season, and people called for his head
imo he has 2-3 good years ahead of him and by that time Carvajal would take over
that is a more sensible plan but it wont happen
tactically he does what Abidal used to do for Barca, only attack when the ball was on his side, his crosses werent great but i didnt expect much from his attacking forays and normally he held on to the ball in attack to find either Di Maria or Ozil
but in defense he is just fine, dealt with Ribery and Tello quite easily despite his lack of pace and keeps his game simple and straight forward

End of thread....

He keeps it simple in attack. Not a problem for me, we have marcelo.

I was called a "nutchutter" for rating him.

Re: Arbeloa is under-rated
I'm gonna have to agree, Arbeloa is incredibly consistent. He's not supremely talented or otherwise incredible... but he's solid and is decent in both defense and attack. To put the cherry on top he has no complaints when sitting on the bench, and he's also from our academy, which is a big extra...

Add to that Raphaël Varane and Ramos is almost like one too, it's a myth that Madrid don't train their own players, it's looks to me thier youth system is good.
Re: Arbeloa is under-rated
Higuain ain't a homegrown Madrid player.
Mata and a few others are, though.
