Re: Raul will leave Schalke
I agree with that Crimson, just find the whole retiring number( even if it is for a limited time) and giving him a testimonial after only playing them for 2 years a bit of a farce tbh.

Well, you probably haven't witnessed close by how much of a standing Raúl has at Schalke with club and fans. It is truly enormous!

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
It depends on how Raul acted during his stay on and off the pitch.
I'm almost certain off the pitch everyone loved him, he made sure to earn the respect of the fans every game.
On the pitch he was part of Schalke's best CL campaign ever, including the 5-1 against Inter in Milan.
Madrid fans consider Van Nistelrooy a Madrid legend, even though he played at Madrid for about two years lol

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
German fans are extremely passionate when it comes to their favorite players. While Raúl had a massive impact in Schalke, I do too agree it's a little extreme. As long as it's temporary, meh.
That reminds me, all number 10s worldwide should be retired once Podolski leaves Koln .

Being considered a legend is one thing, for your club to consider retiring Van Nistelrooy's number and give him a testimonial is another entirely.....
Also RWO i get that but id argue there are players at my club that our fans feel the same about, but theres no way in hell we would retire thier number and give them a testimonial for 2 years of service.
It's all a farce to me.

Why a farce? If they feel so strongly about it, it seems legit to me. And anyway, it is Raúl so he is special in any case.

Come to Galaxy bro. We'll have Del Piero and bring Figo out of retirement.
My dream will never come true.

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
Like I said we didn't retire Di Stefano's number so we won't be retiring any ever lol.
But if we did no doubt Raul would have gotten the same treatment. Ruud would have gotten a shout too since his number was 17 :lucas :
Anyway it's not a farce if people feel strongly about it. Neither me nor you can call what the fan's feel a "farce". If they feel it is the right thing to do then it is. Simple.

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
Something else just occurred to me - with Raúl being the last Nr.7 for a while (they did say it is temporary, after all), they still might sell a couple of shirts with his name. If there would be another Nr.7 that might ruin that incentive ^^

To me retiring someones shirt or/and having a testimonial in his honour..... is something to show your respect for someone who have showed great service and loyalty over many many years to a particular club.....
I maybe old-fashioned but thats how i feel.
Doing it for someone who has been at said club for 2 years to me ruins the idea behind a retired shirt or a testimonial......

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
This really saddened me. I wanted him to play in the CL again, and play another season in Schalke, a club I have come to like and support. Yet I understand his decision and will support him wherever he goes. Always. Raul is my favourite player of all time.
I agree that the whole testimonial and retiring the 7 is a bit excessive for just 2 years, but Mole he was very important and quite loved there. Even the captain for several games. But these decisions are probably business motivated.

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
Raul the legend finally understand that next season will undeniably be Teemu Pukki's year at the summit of Schalke's formation. Raul is passing the torch to a more able body to bring glory to Schalke in CL.

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
From goal.com...
'It has always been a dream of mine to have Raul at Milan' - Silvio Berlusconi
'It has always been a dream of mine to have Raul at Milan' - Silvio Berlusconi
The controversial 75-year-old has hinted that he may open the cheque book to buy the veteran striker.
AC Milan President Silvio Bersluconi believes that another striker will be required for the team next season, however he also added that some of the current crop of frontmen may be on their way out.
Berlusconi criticised coach Massimiliano Allegri after the Rossoneri's Champions League exit against Barcelona, but the eccentric billionaire has now turned his focus to the club's under-performing forwards.
"We will consider selling our surplus forward options in the upcoming transfer window," Berlusconi stated at a press conference.
"I've discussed the situation with Max [Allegri] at my villa in Arcore last week. He listened to me and his simplicity surprised me.
The media mogul then went on to comment on the rumours that Raul Gonzalez will leave Bundesliga club Schalke at the end of the season.
"Raul? It has always been a dream of mine to have him at Milan. I am not concerned about his age, Raul has skills that could be invaluable to the team.
He then speculated on the possibility of partnering the 35-year-old Raul with Filippo Inzaghi, who will turn 39 in August this year.
"Playing him with Inzaghi up front next season is a possibility, but we will see what happens with Pippo's contract situation. At the moment, we have Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] who is performing brilliantly."
Between them, Raul and Inzaghi have scored a total of 146 goals in all European competitions.
Milan are currently trailing Juventus by one point in the race for the Serie A title.

Doubt he would get close to 9mill a year in the MLS

Re: Raul will leave Schalke
that begs another question, why the hell would someone who's probably earned more than a 100 mil over his career go to a shit place with a shit league for a few extra bucks?

36 million a few extra bucks?
Last time in his life to make this sort of money as he can't play forever. He won't earn near this money anywhere else.
Don't see how people don't understand it personally...
FYI according to the 2011 books in the MLS, Beckham earned 6.5mill a year with bonuses from Galaxy and Henry earned 5.6mill total and that's US dollars. Raul is being offered 9mill euro a season for 4 seasons.......

They say she's a champ, endures tons of children and still manages to look decent(more than decent I would say).
As for the topic, I think it's ok for Raul to leave because he played for 2 years with Schalke and enjoyed the Champions league last year and Europa league this year and played well. Raul is gonna turn 35 in two months and I think he's made a right decision. Since it's gonna be a helluva lot tougher to stay this competitive now, moving to a league where there's less league games would be great for the family + all the money he'll get is a nice bonus :shisha:
