Re: Olivier Giroud
And i disagree with the "Benz not being able to do the same thing as Suarez" premise... when he was given the chance at Lyon, he in fact did lead the attack like an elite striker and all by the age of 21. He had 32 goals at the age of 20 for Lyon while being the main guy... took them to the CL quarters and scored 4 CL goals for them in 7 games. He had similar years at the age of 19 and 21 for them too.
As you muppets finally are realizing, it's a different game on an elite team... neither Benzema or Suarez are the main features of their teams. They need to fit in. How has Benz done? Struggled as a 21 year-old in his first year at Madrid... but since then, he's averaged 25 goals/12 assists PER SEASON. That's right.... that's what he's given every year despite just being a kid and dealing with all the BS at Madrid. This year? He's on 21 goals and 11 assists... so right on par.
World cup? 3 goals and 2 assists in 5 games.
Guy is just class. He can play the 9 or 10 with equal ease and is monstrously consistent.
I'd take him over Suarez. Why? You know exactly what you're going to get from Benz year in and year out and he is the most well-rounded CF in the world now that Ibra has dropped off... he can do it all now that he's even made his air game acceptable. You're not going to get 40 goals a season or a guy that's going to dribble 4 guys to score a goal... but you're going to get a guy that guarantees you 25-30 goals and 10-15 assists per season, who plays very unselfishly and will always make his teammates better. If you feature him though, he will push his goal totals to 30-35 goals and still get you around 10 assists.
Very unique.

Not surprised he reminds you of him, Benz for me was always "poor man's Ibra" who himself was taught to base his game off Van Basten's by Capello.jibers wrote:Benzema reminds me of van Basten a bit although VB had RG acting as a SS for him. Pippo wrote:It's just an example. Luisito is a better goalscorer, playmaker, and dribbler. He is better at both Club and NT. There are two criticisms of him: big games at club level, discipline. The first criticism is now useless after not even one season at Barcelona. The second criticism is still applicable.
Is Luisito on "another level" compared to Benzema? No, I do not think so. Is Luisito better? Of course.
Better playmaker? Are you kidding me? Tehcnically, in terms of first touch and weight of passes, Benzema is a level above Suarez and only Ibra is a better passing striker. Benzema might not be a better finisher but he technique and control are much better. Dribbling I'll give Suarez.
I think they around the same level. Depends on the team you want.

Ibra can't lace VB's boots tbh. VB was a level above him.

Can't wait till Benzema moves on from Madrid to a club where he will be the leading/focal point and all that masquerading will be uncovered.

You mean like how he was the focal point at Lyon and destroyed the best defenders in Europe including Prime Rio?
Anyway if it was so easy to do what he does why is it that many have tried and he benches them all
He deserves a lot more respect than he's given round here, you would think it was Suarez who was closing in on the top 10 CL scorers of all time and Benzema had hardly played in the competition in his life.

Re: Olivier Giroud
just like some of the others have said, benzema deserves some respect, the guys is brilliant if it was any other striker doing what benz does, ALL OF YOU would be all over him, you guys treated cavani as a god ffs , but a guy who cracked 40 goals faster than cr and only second to messi in cl, is maybe around the same level as suarez?
lastly game changer? , the amount of big games benz bossed in 20 mins sub appearances, to save madrid is undeniable(mancity, lyon, bvb.etc), the main reason fans was harsh with him was always higuain fact, now two seasons as a starter home fans show him a lot of respect and so does the team, they pass to him almost as much as they do cr, he is clearly rediscovering that lyon form and will only get better
keep deluding yourselves with nonsense reasons, benzema was clearly better than suarez even without scoring

Calm down chad, nobody is insulting Benz here, we all acknowledge he's a great player. For me, it boils down to personal preference

Re: Olivier Giroud
Yep, Benzema is one of the best strikers in the world. Hard to think of more than one or two better than him in fact. If it were up to me the only true striker out there I would prefer to lead the line at Liverpool is Suarez, and maybe Aguero. Otherwise give me Benzema all day.
Sorry to continue derailing the Giroud thread. I would just like to say Giroud is a fine striker. He isn't on the level of those mentioned above, but he has really started to look comfortable at Arsenal. It helps that he has excellent service from the likes of Ozil, Sanchez, Cazorla et. al. but his link up play and teamwork has been really nice to watch. Hats off to him for stepping up when they needed him.

Re: Olivier Giroud
So the guy who didn't score a goal was better than the guy who scored the winning goal
flawed argument. Scoring the winning goal has nothing to do with your display
Benzema had a terrific assist and was very dangerous. I always fear this guy. Suarez's control was great but Casillas was so poor on that goal.
Anyways both strikers are great and are on similars levels imo but they have differents style. It all comes down to personal preference, the players around and the system. Suarez can't do what Benzema is doing at RM ( as good as him ) and I don't think Benz would have been such a leader at Liverpool.

Re: Olivier Giroud
I don't get where this notion comes from that Suarez couldn't do what Benzema is doing at RM though. He's already has as many assists in 9 less games, and creates more scoring chances on average, more successful dribbles, is dispossessed less and is fouled more. He also puts in more pressure with more tackles and interceptions per game as well. Suarez is one of the most versatile forwards going.

Benzema is 3rd in the pecking order in terms of goals for Madrid, Giroud is the de facto #9.

Giroud was out for 3 months and has played 1700 minutes, almost exactly half as much as Benzema (3300)
