Watching him this world cup, I keep thinking back to that scene in TDKR where that guy asks Bane "what... are you?"

Sneijder wasn`t as good as this guy, don't the stats fool you. Forlan,Villa and Muller were all better than him. This kid is legit

What is this revisionist BS? Sneijder was awesome in 2010 mate, he fully deserved all the plaudits he received.

probably he talked only about WC. otherwise Sneijder in a normal world would have won the Balon D'or that year, I don't know how many players played a year as him in football history

Indeed Secco wanted James Rodriguez, he was taking James , Hazard and Naingolaan in 2010.
But Bettega rejected all 3

James has become the most overrated player in the world.better than Sneijder in 2010

Just talking about the world cup. Not the full season. And that statement holds true for the WC. Maybe not better per se, but definitely on par atm.

Sneijder was the best player at the 2010 WC for sure...including what he did leading up to the final he outplayed Forlan and Villa head to head, and if not for Robben choking away two golden opportunities he would have carried the Netherlands almost single-handedly to the Cup.

I thought he deserved the Ballon D'Or that year also, but it is what it is.

As probably the biggest Sneijder fan on this board I agree with this. Rodriguez has been as good as Sneijder was in 2010 up to this point, though we'll see if he can hold that level against the top teams now as Sneijder did.

Re: How highly do you rate James Rodriguez?
I disagree, but it's debatable. If Colombia get koed friday then there is no discussion really.Sneijder took a meh dutch side to the final.
One interesting coincidence in this debate:Holland faced Brazil in the last quarter final, with Sneijder scoring the 2 goals.Let's see how James will do.

Re: How highly do you rate James Rodriguez?
true, it was double by Sneijder.
I wonder how many players in WC history have knocked out Brazil scoring a double and after that incredible year also with the club . How can be underrated for that year ?
Anyway if Colombia knocks out the Brazil , James will win the Balon d'Or of WC who won Forlan in 2010 imo

Re: How highly do you rate James Rodriguez?
Hames has been heavily involved 10 of Colombia's 11 goals in this world cup. The only goal he wasn't involved in was a penalty scored by Cuadrado against Japan when he was on the bench.
Can't say the same about Sneijder.

Yes, but it was given to him lol I'm watching the highlights atm, we destroyed Holland in that game and lost the game in 2 set-piecesBarrileteCosmico wrote:Wasn't one of them a Melo owngoal?Ganso wrote:I disagree, but it's debatable. If Colombia get koed friday then there is no discussion really.Sneijder took a meh dutch side to the final.

Re: How highly do you rate James Rodriguez?
It's seems like over hype but it's not.
Don't try and tell me by comparing him to Snejider that people actually believe he should be considered for a balon d'or like Sneidjer was.
He's just having a great tournament that no one can deny and he just happens to be the center of attention at the moment.

Re: How highly do you rate James Rodriguez?
i haven't really followed his career; so as an overall footballer i can't really judge...he has been amazing so far in this world cup, and warrants the hype and fits well as an amazing nos 10.....there is a BUT though, lol; as great as the world cup is, number one competition in the sport (and prolly in all sports alongside the Olympics), its tough to judge how a player will fare in a season of club football based on the world cup, which if u make the final four, is seven games....the world cup tests the best players for moments of magic or brilliance to lead their teams through tough moments no matter the obstacle...regular season football is more of consistency and will, in some cases, luck too, in champs league...rodriguez is linked to a bunch of top clubs, madrid for instance...the immediate problem is; he probably won't play the role he is playing at Colombia at madrid, thus he probably won't have as many touches of the ball; whilst he is Colombia's go-to guy, at a bigger club it will be about sharing the sugar...he is an intelligent passer so this may not be so problematic....but can he get comfortable with playing that role for 60 plus games a season should be the main question? people who have followed his career will be in a better position to inform the general public about whether he has always been consistent or if the mundial is just a scenario where the faith the team has put in him is what yields confidence...he looks a good player, but the main concern is level of consistency......
as far as the sneijder comparison....it seems people just love to compare for the sake of it; sneijder wasn't hyped until after the world cup, and when the balon d'or gala was close...i don't think during the early stages of the 2010 tournament people (apart from if you're dutch) where going "oh sneijder is the best, he'll lead holland to glory". the talk of sneijder came after; during the season most of the plaudits where going to mourinho (sneijder got some praise in the chelsea game) and after when the balon d'or aka popularity contest voting was taking place, the talk of sneijder's world cup and previous season was raised.
